This probably is some sort of behavioral response to being wet, but my questions would be whether or not there are any other bowel issues. Does the child tend to have loose or hard stools, and how often does the child normally have bowel movements, etc. The best thing would be to encourage the child to have a good bowel movement right before swimming. I think in Sara's case she was caught up in the " fun " and had bad timing. Luckily we only had Casey (her best buddy) here and I stripped her naked and sprayed her off with the hose lol I now encourage her to have her BM before we go swimming like Len said. Sara's only been fully potty trained for a few months and she is doing great at least the accident didn't happen in a store uggg what a mess that would have been and NO hose lolol Kathy mom to Sara

Guest guest
My Hassan does the same thing. He is 4 however not yet potty trained. any type of water he lets loose. So when he gets constipated (as gross as it may seem) I will let him shower in warm/hot water (not hot enough to burn him) and it works every time. He is less hesitant to go in the shower than he is in pull ups or on the potty. For him to go in the potty I have to catch him in the act and race to put him on the potty. Some times he will not finnish on the potty he will wait till I clean him (bc I think he is through) up then continue in his pull up. I really never questioned it until reading these post on the issue. -Mom of Hassan w/ds and unborn

Guest guest
I used to work with a girl (15-18 yrs. w/DS) who also had this problem. We worked with her in a summer camp program and when it came time to go to the pool or beach we always had this problem. We called water her " instant enema " . :-) I remember even driving past the beach we would distract her and have her look away from the water/beach...just in case. It's interesting now that other people are seeing the same thing. I wonder if there is some type of connection or if it's just a fluke? Jill Mac's (3) mom > My Hassan does the same thing.
