Alcohol Kills More Than AIDS

Deaths caused by alcohol are far more than than deaths from AIDS, tuberculosis

or violence. World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that alcohol cause four

percent of death worldwide.

Excessive alcohol consumption is associated with 60 kinds of diseases, including

liver cirrhosis, epilepsy, poisoning, traffic accidents and acts of violence.

Some cancers are also triggered by alcohol, such as colorectal cancer, breast,

liver and throat.

In recent years a global increase in alcohol consumption is triggered by the

economical increase in countries with dense population such as in Africa and

Asia, including India and South Africa.

WHO in its Global Status Report on Alcohol and Health says each year 2.5 million

people died from various causes that is triggered by alcohol. " Consumption of

alcohol, especially fatal to a group of young people and alcohol became the

highest cause of death in men aged 15-59 years old, " WHO said in its report,

according to reuters.

Addiction to alcohol as a trigger of dangerous behavior are found in Brazil,

Kazakhstan, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine and continues to increase in

many countries.

" Worldwide, about 11 percent of alcoholics at least drinks alcohol excessively

every week, and is done more by men than women with a ratio of four to one, "

wrote WHO.

Health ministers from 193 WHO member states their agreement to make policies to

reduce alcohol abuse by raising taxes and limiting marketing of alcoholic

beverages.

Nevertheless, traditional alcoholic beverages or homemade are products widely

consumed by alcoholics from poor countries making it difficult to control. Most
