My doctor has a different opinion.

He says that beta glucan is better than PSK and PSP!

Dear Tom,

That's maybe the problem that everybody has a different opinion. Doctors

(physicians), medical specialists and good willing people like most of us

are in this mailinglist have an opinion about certain topics, like now

betaglucan. No problem, I think it is good to discuss those topics. But if I

feel doubt: in that case I rely rather on the doctor I know already for

years and years then on people (with all respect) who I only know through

internet.

An example: a few weeks ago in this mailinglist somebody wrote a fantastic

article about mushrooms, with a testimonial from Dutch people. That Dutch

guy was cured by the product of that company from an incurable livercancer.

I asked for the emailadres of that person or to send my email to those Dutch

people and then the salesman who was behind that story told me those people

where just divorced, so he didn't know he could reach that people.

I think it is strange that a company uses a testimony for their product and

in that testimony is told that the man is cured this year (!!!!) and when I

ask for contact those people are in the same year where the man is cured

they are divorced and the salesman of that product doesn't know if he can

reach that people. Sorry I'm so suspicious but this is very strange in my

opinion Since then I haven't heard anything from the salesman and those

mushrooms. I get the feeling that behind the promotion of betaglucan a big

network of consists. A big marketing principal is that when you mention all

the time the name of a product and that it is good and reliable and you give

also some remarkable stories with it and some studies with mice etc. then

people start to believe wow this is the solution. But till now I haven't

seen any Phase III study for betaglucan on its own and for PSK and PSP are

Phase III studies available with very good results.

But still I hope that betaglucan is one of that solutions though. But I hope

you understand my position/opinion in telling people with cancer what kind

of products will be the best to use.

Hi,

Normally I dont read any of Kees emails due to the clever and critical

comments he regularly makes about me, but sometimes I come across them in

replies

like this. On most issues Kees and I differ, for example he promotes chemo and I

dont. Kees sell a video about cancer through this list, I sell a very small

amount

of Beta Glucan through the list. Other people mention cancer clinics they work

at

and cancer treatment services they offer, on the list.

That is one of the reasons people join these list for, to learn where to get

relevant services, information and cheap supplements.

I think is you read Kees emails you will find he has never a kind word to say

about me. Thats freedom of speech and so I dont read his emails.

As it happens I am the biggest advocate of Coriolus Versicol mushroom and its

extract PSK on the list having posted 46 emails mentioning PSK. Now Kees is

advocating PSK rather than beta glucan.

In fact PSK is 25% protein and 75% beta glucan. The beta glucan in PSK comes

from

Coriolus Versicolor mushroom.

The listowner Bob is an advocate of the Beta Glucan mushroom Agaricu Blazei,

that

does not mean he is running this list to promote Agaricu Blazei. I also advocate

use

of that mushroom derived beta glucan source.

I am NOT running a Beta Glucan Promotion as Kees falsely claims.

I am just providing unbiased, proven, peer reviewed, published information.

I suggest Kees is quite unaware of the many studies done which prove the

efficacy

of yeast derived beta glucan against cancer.

For Example....Beta-1,3-glucan's beneficial role in treating cancer was

illuminated

in 1975 by W. Mansell, M.D., and colleagues, as reported in the Journal

of the National Cancer Institute. Nodules of malignant skin cancer in nine

Beta-1,3-Glucan has a long scientific history and a reference list

including literally hundreds of papers. DiLuzio, Ph.D. at Tulane

University experimented with Beta-1,3-Glucan. In the late 1980's, Joyce

Czop, Ph.D. at Harvard University, described the mode of action of this

material in stimulating the immune system: there is a specific receptor for

yeast Beta-1,3-Glucan on the surface of certain cells, called macrophages;

that when activated, stimulates a cascade of events that turns the body

into " an arsenal of defense " .

There are several different types of Beta Glucan with different levels of

activity, the majority of which are inert and used as simple food fillers.

The most active type, however, is Beta-1,3-Glucan from the cell wall of

yeast. A three dimensional model of this molecule shows it to be a helix,

and research at Harvard University has shown that receptors for

approximately seven sugar residues exist on the macrophage cell membrane.

The fact that such a small number of glucose units can activate these

receptors is very remarkable. What is more remarkable still is that there

are specific receptors for this sort of polysaccharide chain on the surface

of the most ancient cell in the immune cascade. There is now evidence to

show that Beta Glucan is, from an evolutionary point of view, the most

widely and most commonly observed macrophage activator in nature. The same

enhancing mechanisms have been found in all branches of the animal, bird,

fish and plant kingdoms.

In the 1970's, after extensive studies in animals, human experiments with

Yeast Beta Glucan began. In a study conducted by Mansell, M.D., Yeast

Beta Glucan was injected into subcutaneous nodules of malignant melanoma.

Subsequent biopsies of the injection sites found no evidence of melanoma,

just a collection of obviously activated macrophages.

The first human study on Beta-1,3-Glucan's systemic effect was in the

mid-1980's on advanced HIV infection. Even in these deeply immunologically

deficient individuals, an increase in serum cytokines IL-1, IL-2 and

interferon was measured.

Recent independent experiments completed at Baylor College of Medicine in

the laboratory of Professor Phil Wyde, Ph.D., also indicate the oral

effectiveness of Beta-1,3-Glucan in stimulating non-specific immunity.

Peritoneal macrophages doubled their phagocyte activity in mice fed with

Beta-1,3-Glucan. This systemic effect of oral application is comparable to

that achieved by injection, which makes this material a unique and very

valuable oral immunostimulant.

Some of the biological events illustrating this stimulation are:

Activation of macrophages, expressing increased nonspecific phagocytic

activity allowing macrophages to destroy pathogens more efficiently,

frequently preventing disease.

Release of important cytokines such as IL-1, IL-2, among others, which

initiates an immune cascade and triggers other cell lines, such as T-cells.

Release of colony-stimulating factors, boosting bone marrow production.

Cholesterol-reduction through cell activation and anti-oxidant activity

given an oral dose of beta-1,3-glucan after the radiation exposure, 70%

were completely protected from the damaging effects.

Hi Kees,

you are absolut right to be suspicious and you should tell us the names of

the

salesman, the product and the company who are trying to make money with false

testimonials on the back of cancerpatients. We have made the same bad

experience with the brazilian company takesun and their Agaricus blazei

murill product RF 1000.

Dear Kees and moonbeam,

Thanks BOTH of you for your advice and for the information you bring to this

list. It is very important for all of us who begin to know something about

all these alternative treatments, to get all the information available. I

have read all your messages, I have entered to Kees' website, I have printed

many of your messages and I have learned a lot (as well as from other

members)

I also want to give a brief comment: I think all of us are trying to learn

or help other people learning things about alternative therapies. If,

besides that, some people offer additional help by selling some products,

videos, etc., I think they are welcomed. Any case, if those people are known

for giving continuous information from different sources and about different

treatments, and their purpose here is not selling their products, I don't

see anything wrong about them. Sometimes I have asked for some help in

finding products and I have received valuable information; I don't know

almost anything about these treatments, neither the doctors here in Peru,

and searching through the internet gives me LOTS of possible places to buy

anything, so here I could find some help.

I don't want to say anything against or in favor of anybody, I only would

like you to know that, when people here is desperate for information and get

help for different people, we also get a bit angry or upset, when we read

that two valuable, helpful people are involved in this kind of arguments. I

read it the first week I signed to this list, and I don't feel comfortable

at all, and make me think about considering the information more cautiously;

now I have been here for more than a month, I think I can give you my own

comments about this topic.

And thanks once again to everyone in this list that has been helping A LOT

during these particularly difficult times for me.

Hi moonbeam,

the problem with RF 1000 was, that it did`nt cure one patient in our study

and the

claim on the takesun website (http://www.agaricus.net/german/researchm.html)

" all tested cancerpatients are today in remission " is a lie and a fraud.

The fact, that the company still today need to promote RF 1000 with our study

shows me, that they have obviously not one proofed case where RF 1000 has

cured cancer.

It is the same fraud like Kees found out in the Netherlands and I would not

be very surprised, if it is the same company.

But beside our sad experience with this kind of business our Doctors still

believe in the efficiency of Beta Glucan together with vitamin C and enzymes.

We just carry out together with a swiss university a test between 5 yeast

derived

Beta Glucans from different companies, to find out the best and cleanest

product.

Dear POelcka,

Yes it was the same company as you mention now. I must say that the email

was very friendly but I think it is strange to use a testimony and when you

ask for the adress or at least to send forward my questions they tell that

those people they cann't reach, because they are just divorced. But I

underasatand that you had even very bad experiences with them So this makes

it clear for me, I don't take any message of them serious.
