Ok I don't post very often but do read the posts.

Todd is just turned 4 and our third son but the only person in the

family to have BPES. It took till he was about 7 months old to be

told there was actually officially something " wrong " with him up to

then we had just accepted that was how Todd looked, but even then it

was only diagnosed as ptosis. We eventually came up with our own

diagnosis of BPES about 6 months ago, when we found ths brilliant

site. Since then our local hospital have confirmed our diagnosis!

and thanks to info found and help given here we have got a NHS

referral to Mr Collin at Moorfields. Mr Collin was more than happy

to offer Todd surgery, both for lids and folds as apparently his

folds are quite severe. But we decided that as it would only be

cosmetic we would leave it for now and see how he progresses as a

person. Obviously things may change as he starts school - though

nursery hasn't been a problem - or as he gets older, who knows?? but

he is a happy little boy who has only once asked why his eyes are a

different shape to his daddys so long may this continue without us

having to go through the heartache of him not being happy and all

the emotions that an operation would bring!

Obviously this is just our perspective and Todd's BPES isn't too

bad, though he does wear glasses and in some way they improve his

appearance without the need for surgery!

Good luck with whatever decision you make

It increases the width of the eyes, improves the person's vision.

Some may not need it.

My daughter is nearly 2 and her eye openings are very narrow, she

has limited horizontal movement of her eyes which we would like to

improve.

I had canthiplasty and so did my dad.

Hi, I'm a new member. My daughter is almost 9 years old and we

had the sling surgury when she was five. We have not had the inner epi

folds surgury. I was going to leave it up to my daughter I guess. I

think the surgury is cosmetic. I do feel satisfied as of now. But now

some kids are asking her why does she have small eyes. I told her that

if she wanted to get the surgury she could. She doesn't seem to want

it. But part of me wants her to look as " normal " as possible to fit

in. Its something I've been thinking about lately, like you.

Thanks,
