Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Thank you so much for all of the information that has been shared lately! I am trying to keep a good record of everything so I can stay informed. Micah had his 1 yr post-op appt. on Monday. (He has had 1 surgery - YV canthoplasty and frontalis slings with silicone rods.) For those of you who are new, we adopted Micah at the age of 3 from Korea. He had his surgery done there before we came home so our doctor here is just the surgeon we follow up with. The surgeon was THRILLED with Micah's results and admitted he doesn't usually get results like that himself with one surgery. He mentioned he was glad they used silicone rods on Micah because he finds them easier to adjust in children if the need arises. He said we are out of the danger zone as far as an infection occurring unless something bizarre happens like Micah getting a cut on his eyebrow or something and germs entering that way. And he said they are seeing silicone slings last 5, 10, 20+ years. (I'd prefer if it were 20+ thank you very much!) I asked him if the YV canthoplasty would need to be redone as Micah grows and he said " usually not - in fact as the child matures it can look more 'normal' than when they were younger " . Does anyone know anything about that? I'm not sure that made sense to me. Anyway, he said Micah looks better than he did the last time he saw him (which was 4 months post-op). And I agree - I saw the pictures he took last June when Micah was 4 months post-op and you could still tell there was some swelling, redness, etc. He looks great now. I'll post new pictures in our album as soon as I figure out how. Gotta run - my best to all of you! I love how much I learn from all of you!
