This is always zinc with Tom. He seeks out things with zinc, sulphate

type ingredients. Zinc oxide (sun block) is a real favourite. I give

him extra Brainchild zinc and it tends to go away again.

Just got a phone call from a mom in Georgia wanting to know if Illinois have

therapist working with kids who eat non foods. This little guy is 3 and has

torn his mattress apart to eat the filler. Mom is willing to relocate to

Illinois, she has family here. Any help?

Thanks,

Sandy

I don't know if anyone else responded to this, as yet, but Sandy, I would really

not recommend anyone move to Illinois. In almost every measure of supports and

services for people with disabilities we rank low. If she has a choice, she

should move almost anywhere else, but Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota are

better midwestern states for community supports and services for individuals

with disabilities, though I cannot speak specifically for early intervention

services. I can certainly tell you that inclusive educational supports and

services are also almost non-existent in Illinois.

As for a specialist in pica, to be honest, the only person who comes to mind was

someone who used to specialize in providing oral-motor therapy for orally

defensive young children and I know she is no longer practicing...perhaps

another IPADDU member would know of someone. Your friend could also check with

Mike Kaminsky at Illinois Life Span for referral info on oral-motor

specialists...1-800-588-7002.

I would just like to add that my son had PICA and we were told that it was

related to and iron deficiency so I would have the levels checked.
