Guest guest
Anyone any experience with this or any info on the available tests? This was queried for me about 4 years ago when I was diganosed with gastritis, at the time it was absolute agaony and I was prescibed omeprazole. That did settle it down but in the time since, reflux has become a huge problem - my nutritionist put that down to low stomach acid as I know a lot of you on here have had trouble with and I did have great results with betaine HCl. However, in recent months the gastritis has started to flare again - nothing like before (which was constant, now it's sometimes when I've just gone to bed) but the reflux is just going crazy. Stocking up on the HCl today as I've just run out but I just can't get it right. For the last two weeks I've had a horrible stale backtaste on my exhales, I had this for a while last year as well but no other symptoms. This time though I've also been nauseous for the two weeks too and it's driving me mad I've also been nauseous first thing in the morning for a long, long time - I can onyl sotmach certain things for breakfast and often just skip it because I feel too sick (not reflux, just nausea). Now, I've been having a read around and have noticed some places say no antacids for a week before a test - I'm confused over which test though, and which is the most accurate. I'm trying to get through to the docs at the moment to book an appt for next week to try and get tested (will do it myself if they won't, it's cheap enough). Any info, anyone? Thanks, Niki
Guest guest
hello niki i associate nausea/bad breath with a struggling liver ...just as a pro tem measure you could try drinking hot water first thing in the morning and see if that helps. if it makes you *gag* chances are there is a bit of liver conjestion. do you have any symptoms of candida? regarding the heliobacter ...i think there is a *breath* test but i have also heard there are many false negatives. trish > > Anyone any experience with this or any info on the available tests? > For the last two weeks I've had a horrible stale backtaste on my exhales, I had this for a while last year as well but no other symptoms. Guest guest
Ah, my thyroid... I'm not on any meds for this at all, as the NHS refuse to see that there is anything wrong with me in that area (despite a long list of symptoms and very strong family history - nope, I'm in range, that's that). So at the moment in that regard, I'm attempting to save up to get a full panel done myself - at the very least antibodies, as the NHS have refused 3 times now to test them no matter what I say. Once I have that result I'll be going down the self-treatment route (already on NAX and supplements). Going back to the HP... with the HCl, I did have my level right at about 2/3 tabs per meal (depending on what I'm eating). Recently though I just can't get it right - no matter how many or how few I take, I get reflux. The only thing that works is having vinegar on my food and even then I'll get it a bit. I try not to use antacids as I know I have low stomach acid - but it's so bad and hard to control at the moment that I'm not succeeding (the burning sensation is serious when it starts). Guest guest
There is a diy kit to test for helicobactor pylori.... Price is under £15.... http://www.simplicityhealth.co.uk/stomach-ulcer-test.asp?gclid=COW9nsTK36wCFcYKf\ AodQBEKpQ There are various reports on the net about the efficacy of home testing kits, and the helicobactor pylori kit came out well..... HP supposedly can't survive in acid conditions...... x > > Helicobacter pylori of HP is a bacteria which infects the stomach causing inflammation in the stomach lining. It is a bacteria that is simply treated with antibiotics over a long term.
Guest guest
As i said we hypothyroids need good levels of HCL (by whatever means) otherwise we are at risk of disease. HCL forms part of the immune system because it prevents invaders getting in via the stomach. As hypothyroids we tend to have low HCL levels and commonly we are advised to take antacids too; this neutral/alkaline environment is abnormal to good health. This is one of the reasons hypothyroids suffer a myriad of digestive problems leading on to other systemic problems.
Guest guest
Just bumping this with a question purely out of curiosity. I got to the doctor today, but not for this - I went in for the cough I've had for 7 weeks now! I've been put on amoxycillin - reading around suggests this is one of the possibles for treating an H. pylori infection. So as I say purely out of curiosity, is this right? I am idly wondering if I might find myself better on both fronts after the course! Thanks, Niki
Guest guest
Just a little update. I've still not been in to the doctor about this - I thought I'd see how it went taking the amoxycillin. Successful I'd say! Symptoms almost entirely gone, no nausea (still can't stomach much to eat in the morning but I don't actually feel sick now, just not hungry), my reflux is back under control again, and no gastritis to speak of. I'll do one of the home antibody tests at some point more out of curiosity but for now, I am much better. Niki
