Guest guest
Hi Some of you may remember me posting a while ago, as my doc had persuaded me to " try " thyroxine after high t3 on test results...despite me feeling pretty much OK on NDT 2 and a half grains (well not perfect, but better than I do now!)... The doc did say I could go back on to NDT if the trial failed. I allowed myself to be persuaded, as in the back of my mind, I just wanted to be a standard patient, espescially with the Psoriatic arthritis and sjogren's too, I'm tired of always trying to explain why I am not on the " normal " drug. It has been 5 weeks on thyroxine now - actually to be perfectly honest, I was asked to transfer to 175mcg, but decided to only take 125 and 1 grain of NDT. The doc does not know this, it was only as I had some left over. I have been feeling absolutely dreadful over the last couple of weeks - my skin has dried up, I am exhausted and ready for bed at 2 -3 in the afternoon, the insomnia is back...also temperature has gone all awry again - once I get cold or hot, I don't seem to be able to easily cool off or warm up. I am getting really down, and also withdrawing from my partner/friends/family - this was a big symptom before. I was due to go to a work conference today, and I have had to go off sick, and I feel terrible about it, and work is none too happy. So I went to the Gp (not my usual one), and he basically said, you need to wait another 3 weeks, have a blood test, because it is probably not a high enough dose, but can't do anything until 8 weeks. Signed me a sick note for the next week, and that was that (easy when it's not your life going down the tubes isn't it!!) So what now? Do I wait and see if the T4 does kick in? Do I think b*gger it, and self medicate again? Try to see my normal doc? If I try and go back to NDT myself, presumably it will take as long or longer to kick in? Unless I go straight to my normal dose, in which case, presumably with the higher dose of T4 in my system I will be hyper for a bit... The complicating factor with all of this, is I did feel terrible for quite a while with NDT, I do wonder whether it was taking hydrocortisone which helped it " bed in " and get on an even keel - perhaps I need to keep with the thyroxine/NDT mix and add in hydrocortisone?? I don't know!! I would love to hear anybody's thoughts... Leah x
