Good Recovery - so far so good

I've had Samters (diagnosed) for 20 years now. And like many of you - I've had

the many hospital surgeries and countless doctors office outpatient type little

procedures. (add 'em all together - it comes to 52) Countless array of

medications.

My most recent hospital surgery was in early May 2010. What was different from

the last couple of surgeries was that the doctor kept that darn packing in my

nose for 7 days (168 hours) after surgery. I have the patience of one of the

saints!...Or my history of having sinus infections with swollen polyps for years

prepared me for it :)

But so far so good. I have an air-way and no more headaches. Since I've been

through all this before, I can't help but be negative about the outcome...I'm

waiting for it all to come back. Headaches, facial swelling, no airway, sinus

infections, etc. Four things we are trying that is very different in my

lifestyle and so far so good:

(1) We moved out of my old house (big, dusty, drafty -- to many remodeling

projects) (2) No longer on birth control pill - it was also giving me high blood

pressure (3) Showers at night (get all dirt/grime/allergens off the hair & body)

and (4) No more prevention Allergy Shots. Oddly enough with the allergy shots

my fiance noticed how bad I was for two days after each shot (mostly more stuffy

sounding). Back then, my fiance had kindly started calling me Snuffy.

NOW - I still take singulair and claritin every morning. For those of you who

know - it is so nice to go more than a week without facial pain. It is so nice

to just inhale through my nose! It is very nice to sleep all the way through

the night. As much as I enjoy the energy prednisone provides --- my family and

friends can not stand my out going behavior.

Knock on wood - it has been just over 6 months now since the last sinus surgery.

I do know that I have (small) polyps in my nose --- but I have an airway and

there are NO headaches. I know that other diseases can be so very much worse

and cruel than what we go through. I think when the cure for the common cold is

found - we will find the cure for Samters.
