Guest guest
Like many others on here, I have endured numerous tests over the last couple of years - most of which have come back in the normal range. I say 'most' because an exception in my case was a blood test for serum ferritin, which on two separate occasions has come back showing I have higher than normal readings. The reference range for a man is anywhere between 12-300, and for a woman 12-250. In my case, both readings were approaching 600. A rheumatologist is investigating further for me, particularly into the possibility of me having a genetic condition known as Haemochromatosis. This condition can result in a myriad of symptoms, and is well known to affect organs including the THYROID gland. Here is a link for information. http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/haemochromatosis.htm The good news is that if detected relatively early, the treatment (blood-letting) is usually safe and effective. I'm still waiting to hear if I have the disease, but if so it would explain many of the baffling symptoms that have surfaced in recent times.
