TPA Annual Spring Dinner and Meeting 24th April 2010

A

wonderful time was had by all and I will be writing in more detail at a later

date and putting a link on our web site to the speeches given by Dr Barry

Peatfield, Dr Gordon Skinner and the questions and answers and which were

recorded by  originally thought we might experience problems when we found,

during the late morning, that the staff at The Alma had only tested the PA

equipment the night before, and found it was not working. It was too late to do

anything. However, the acoustics in the room were excellent and I believe we

all managed to hear the speakers very well.

It

was very sad that our new medical adviser, Dr Theodora Mantzourani was

prevented from attending, because of the backlog of flights caused by the volcanic

ash. She was literally trapped in Nice, France, and unable to get a flight back

to the UK until Saturday night - when our event was all over.  She was so

looking forward to meeting Dr Peatfield, Dr Skinner and all of us for the first

time, and she was also planning to give a speech. Theodora told me she has no

words to express her disappointment at this turn of events and promises  to do

her best to make up for this at the earliest opportunity and meet all the

" wonderful TPA members " at the earliest opportunity. Theodora hopes

we will forgive her and sends lots of love to you all, plus a million

apologies.

I

did suggest at the meeting, that it might be a good idea to have two annual TPA

Dinners and Meetings, the usual one in Yorkshire in April and another one

somewhere around the Midlands, so it would give an opportunity for those who

live in the South to attend and this was met with resounding approval. The

second meeting would take place around September/October and already, I have

had three people contacting me to say they are happy to arrange such an event.

So many thanks to them, and we will hope that all our medical advisers will be

able to attend at that time. I will keep you all posted as to how this Autumn

meeting progresses.

One

of our members asked if it would be possible to put out a list of those who

attended our meeting last Saturday and this I have done below. I have still not

heard back from either Jeffries or anybody who might know of her, but

she forgot to pay for her meal, and I don't want to have to pick up the bill,

so if anybody can help in locating her, please let me know.

As

soon as Mike has been able to sort out the recordings, I will write more. I

would personally like to thank everybody who helped to make the day and evening

such an enjoyable and successful event, and many thanks to you all for your

wonderful generosity, as we raised a grand total of £450.00 through donations

and proceeds from the raffle.
