Jane!

HURRAY! Sounded like good info to me!

I love Curves and tell everyone I know about it! I would LOVE for all my

friends who have had surgery to join it. I have free passes, but many people

do not wanna try. I wish they would and know that my example is important

and sure hope I tone up nicely not only for me, but for my entire group here!

The women at my local Curves range from young too old with the average being,

as you said, in their 40's. I bring my 13 yr old and one other women does as

well....and the kids love it too!

I wanna know, Jane, how your excess skin did ? I REALLY wanna work on my

stomach and do not want a tummy tuck unless it is essential. I am 36 and

work out at least once every day but Sunday. Do I have a chance of toning up

my tummy? I don't need a 6 pack, I just don't want hanging skin and

infections.

Thanks!

Hi ,

I've lost 107 pounds and I can honestly say that the excess skin

isn't too bad. I'm also 52 years old. I'm sure if I would have lost

this when I was 36 it would even be a lot better. Tummy is the

hardest. What I suggest to all the ladies at Curves is that they

really hold in their tummy when they are on ALL the machines. Sounds

like you are starting a good exercise program early enough that I do

believe you have a chance. You have to give it a chance.

Keep up the good work

GOO Sharon!! You will really be glad you joined. I always feel good about

myself after doing my work out...now on round two, sometimes I'm like " Geez,

you know you hate exercise " but before I know it I'm done and smiling!

Enjoy!

and don't push yourself too hard to start. I was totally unfit and it took

me a week to get myself fit enough to do all 30 minutes! But now I do 60

minutes a day!

I've not yet joined... but talked locally to my folks at the new Curves in

Charlotte, NC

29.00 per month if it's a direct bank draft..

or 39.00 per month if you pay month to month..

I also understand that there's a nominal up front type fee.. 50.00 or

something

like that.

Margaret from St. Louis has just joined.. maybe she'll respond, too.

I just checked into it in my area and this is what I was told:

$149 start-up fee but they had a special going right now for $59.

Monthly $39, yearly $278 or if you let them debit your account it could be

$29/month.

Unfortunately they are not close enough to me - 30 minutes drive each way -

or I would have already joined!

Hi. I joined Curves on May 1. At the time that I joined they had a

special going on for the membership. Normally they said membership

is a one time fee of $149. It was a one time fee of $49 with the

discount I was given. At the facility that I am a member of there is

a few different plans to chose from. If you do a check draft it is

$29 a month plus the membership fee for a one year membership. If

you pay the whole year upfront it is $288 including the membership

fee. If you pay by the month, I think it was $39 a month plus the

membership fee. Those are the only ones I can remember right now.

So far I have really enjoyed it. I really like that it is only for

women. I am still a little uncomfortable when there is only small

women in there with me, but it is not near as bad as being in there

with men too. I also really like it because I have been able to go

on my lunch hour at work when it is not very busy. The most people

that have been working out while I am there so far has been 3 other

people besides myself. If I went after work it would be a lot more

crowded. I don't know if all facilities are set up the same or not.

There is not any shower facilities at the Curves that I go to. When

the weather gets hotter I may have to go after work instead of during

work. Let me know how your facility is set up. I hope you really

enjoy it!!!!!

I just joined last week. It costs $29 per month if

you have it automaticaly paid through a credit card or

an automatic withdrawal from your checking account.

$39 a month if you pay it yourself month to month.

This is locked in forever. The monthly fee never goes

up.

The first month there is a registration fee. I think

it was $59? Something like that. I had my first work

out on Saturday. I am SO out of shape. It was fun

and I was able to do it all, but I could definitely

tell I had worked out. Everyone was friendly and

there were all sizes and all ages.

Sid is right at 29. a month. There is a start up fee, but I'm not sure what

it is. Sometimes there are promotions to wave that fee...call and ask when

the next enrollment without a sign up fee is...or since it is new, ask them

to waive it if you sign a yearly agreement. Couldn't hurt!

remember, you can ALWAYS negotiate that first time fee and they will give

you a reduction of usually at least $100 so that you will join, trust me,

try it and it works.

The only one I have trouble with is the one for leg lifts. It kills my

tailbone. The next time I go I am taking a piece of foam to cushion it during

the exercise. I got pretty sore the first day, but it was gone by the time I

went back.

Anyone else have any trouble with some of the machines at Curves??

My shoulder muscles are a little sore, and my lower back is giving me some

trouble....

I love going in there, I love doing 1 and 1/2 hours of aerobic exercise in

only 1/2 an hour..

Plese let me know on this, Trudy

Trudy,

I would talk to the owner. My daughter was having trouble with the thigh

machine because she didn't have her feet flexed. Her knee was hurting! Once

the owner watched her, she figured out what she was doing wrong and when

corrected her feet, the pain went away!

Also, if you are new, that might also contribute to it.

Yes!!!!!!! The squat machine would be hard if we didn't have something heavy to

pick up when we stand...... hahaha just plain old squatting, ya know?

The one that's hard on me is the one you have to place your feet in front of you

and push... I keep waiting for the doctor to come in and tell me how many

fingers I've dialated... LOL

But, in all honestly, I'm going 3X a week now, and I love it... I'm even gonna

go while out in Colorado so that I won't get be hind and get sore all over

again!!

Trudy

Thanks for the advice!

Oddly enough one just opened down the street from me. WELL, not down the

street about 10 miles down the street but here in the boonies that is down

the street. I will have to check it out I most likely could not find time to

go. BUT maybe in the fall.

I went into one here in Round Rock, and promptly turned back around.

They wanted $25 or so a month -- only $5 less than the YMCA was asking

for -- but offered a LOT less.

The building was somewhat dingy, and the place had a bit of a smell to

it. I watched for a bit, and it looked more or less like a cookie-

cutter routine for everyone, rather than a specific workout designed

for each individual. The 'instructor'/manager was also about a size 2,

petite. BLAH!

I'm hoping that I got a really bad example of Curves O.o

K.

recently opened in my area and I am considering joining. When I took the tour

a lot of very overweight women were in attendance; friendly atmosphere; etc.

I think if I joined it would really boost my metabolism some more; so that with

my Lifelift breathing just might work perfectly for me.

Thanks for all your opinions on Curves.

I toured our Curves and was surprised that so many heavy women were working out

there. The manager was about a size 2; but the sweetest lady who totally

understood my feelings. She let me test out the equipment; etc. I'm going

to think it over and decide by next week. It is a bit high priced; but my

only other option around me is a Bally's; and there I know I would feel I

wouldn't fit in.

The group of women working out at the time of my visit were very friendly; etc.

I was just very comfortable in there. I'm ready to add another type of change

to my daily regimen and this may be the change I need. Since the machines are

resistance; I think I'll even be able to incorporate my Lifelift breathing while

doing them as well.

I'll keep you posted on what I finally decide.
