For those who are new to iodine, Dr. Brownstein currently has the ONLY book out there by a doctor using iodine in medical practice. That's why his iodine book serves as an excellent introduction.

For some reason seems to think there are many books. There are a number of doctors using iodine but only ONE, Dr. Brownstein, has done research AND had patient experience and written a decent, readable book.

We look forward to Dr. Flechas finishing his book so that there will be another practicing Iodine-Literate doctor to read.

This is what the groups home-page has on it:  DescriptionIodine and human nutrition. How much iodine do we need? What are the best sources? What happens if we don't get enough? Or get too much?Iodine has been found effective with hypothyroid and hyperthyroid, fibrocystic breasts, polycystic ovary syndrome, brain fog, constipation, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation, and detoxification issues.Iodine is detected in every organ and tissue in the body and is essential in pregnancy. It is found in high levels in the thyroid gland, breast, liver, lung, heart, and adrenal glands. There is currently a great deal of research on iodine and cancer, including cancer of the breast, colon, lungs, ovaries, pancreas, prostate, stomach, and thyroid. The Iodine Group has hundreds of links to relevant information and research. You can also find iodine information on our sister website: www.iodine4health.comNo where does it say anything about Brownstein's book or say you must read it to participate.  I haven't read it and don't have any immediate intention of doing so.  I have gotten a tremendous amount of information via internet research, including this groups files.  As far I know, Dr. Brownstein is not the last word on iodine and how to use it, etc.  It would be a very unwelcoming group indeed if this were a prerequisite.  We are all here trying to learn more, and share and try to get healthy, not to sell books and delay help until you have read ONE persons opinions.  This is definitely not in the spirit of sharing and helping.  As far as I know, Zoe is the sole owner and moderator of the group, am I wrong? On Sep 22, 2006, at 11:07 AM, Lynne234923@... wrote: Sue,   You will save a lot of time, money and unwanted side effects if you read Dr. Brownstein's book first. That is what we are saying. More importantly, you will get your answers from a really authoritative source who has spent years using iodine on his patients.   Yes, we are all here to help each other. And your Mom was right about no question being to frivolous but knowing what place to ask it is another issue. Some of these questions wouldn't need to be asked of the group if posters had read the very easy-to-read book. Also, the quality of the answers would have a better context.   We just want people to get the best information and the least side effects. It's disturbing to read posts from people who don't know about taking vitamin C, Selenium, Celtic salt and sometimes magnesium with their iodine.   I hope this reasoning is clear. We're all going to have to think about keeping this as one group or maybe it's inevitable that the group will split off at some point. We never envisioned at the beginning that the group would get this large and take its current direction.   Lynne   Sue writes: Ok, I am confused now. Do I need to get Dr Brownstein's book before I can post anything on iodine or health issues related to iodine? Are you asking us to only mention the topic of iodine when we post messages from now on? Am I the only one who thinks this is crazy? I thought we were all here to help eachother. I was brought up to ask questions. My Mom said no question was frivolous if you learned something from asking about it.Sue

Oh don't be so ridiculous.  Brownstein is not the world's expert.  I want relevant facts from lots of sources.  I guess you don't.  O.K. got it.  A very narrow minded view, IMO.An intelligent person does not assume one source is the be all and end all, especially in matters of health and science. I agree with you on this.

I find Dr. Brownstein's work enlightening...but I also found Gaby's

rebuttals on the subject thought-provoking.

I find the same type of mindset on this and adrenal fatigue...with

Jefferies being cited as the ultimate guru...and yet it (treatment

of adrenal dysfunction) was all so new at that time...so to me, I'm

also interested in the additional 60 years of pertinent research

from across the globe regarding the subject of adrenal dysfunction

and HPA axis suppression.

So i keep wondering....who else beside brownstein is doing work with

iodine...surely there is someone? anyone know?

but yea, I like relevant data from several sources....so i can

compare a bit.

There are more Cindi. Dr. Abraham, Dr. Flechas and there is one more that I ran across a few weeks ago and Zoe posted it somewhere on the website. I want to say he is out west but could be wrong. There is so much info out there! You may find it by looking at the group website under clinicians.

Ding, ding, ding.  Wrong again.Breast Cancer and Iodine : How to Prevent and How to Survive Breast Cancer (Paperback) by Dr. Derry M.D., Ph.D. (Author) "This book is about the cause, prevention and treatment of breast cancer..." http://tinyurl.com/e5qse On Sep 22, 2006, at 12:34 PM, Lynne234923@... wrote: For those who are new to iodine, Dr. Brownstein currently has the ONLY book out there by a doctor using iodine in medical practice. He's not practicing any more, but I became interested in iodine because of

Dr. Derry's, " Breast Cancer and Iodine. " He did use iodine in his clinical

practice, and suggested to all his hypothyroid patients both Armour Thyroid

and Lugol's Solution.

Guy Abraham wrote an excellent article on iodine which can be found at

http://tinyurl.com/g5fb8 and discusses many of the concepts. I guess since

you are probably aware of him, he's not practicing any more either, but that

doesn't mean the information isn't useful. Just because something is new

doesn't make it better or right.

Sarcastic and inflammatory behaviour is very destructive to a groups

integrity. Many people are here for the purpose of improving their

health because they are absolutely miserable and this type of

behaviour is very damaging to many, especially those with adrenal

issues. I understand the need for educating onseself when joining any

group. Perhaps a more constructive suggestion would be to

suggest all newbies read the files, database, links, etc. prior to

asking questions. Please keep in mind also that some are on an

extremely limited income and/or housebound making it next to

impossible to go out and buy or even pick up a book. Even visiting a

library is impossible for some. I think for the time being it might be

best for me to cancel the e-mail from this group because this kind of

thing is just too stressful.

Gladioli,

I totally agree with everything you just said.

Three months ago I didn't even know what hypothyroidism, Hashi's,

adrenal fatigue, and iodine therapy was. I have learned an

incredible amount of new information, and have spent a s**tload of

money on trying to get better. I have purchased nine new books,

including Brownstein's 'Overcoming Thyroid Disorders', and his DVD.

I probably will buy his Iodine book soon, but haven't picked it up

yet. And I have an appointment to see Brownstein's associate, Dr.

Nusbaum, on October 12th. (at $375 per hour).

I really don't appreciate being treated like I'm stupid, or don't

belong in this group, and I think Lynne should admit that she may

have made a mistake in her post that obviously offended so many

people!
