Of course this is hard for you. It's natural to feel

worried and
frightened
& gt; when facing major

surgery. You fear that you may die. Anyone,

especially
a
& gt; mother of so many children,

would have thoughts like that. You are very
& gt;

brave though. You have survived a lot of trials in

your life - I know you
& gt; can do this. You are

also a woman of faith. Try to believe

that
everything
& gt; will be OK and that God

will be with you. I also honestly think

that
number
& gt; of doctors you consulted would

not be unanimously recommending the
surgery
& gt;

if they thought it presented a great danger to

you.
& gt;
& gt; Despite how you are feeling

emotionally, logically, you know that

the
odds
& gt; are overwhelmingly on your side.

The Whipple procedure has been performed
& gt; many

times now and with much success. Your surgeon is very

experienced.
You
& gt; and I have both read the

facts, and we know that the vast majority of
& gt;

patients come through the surgery very well. You are

going to be in that
& gt; majority.
& gt;
& gt;

I know that I and everyone here will be pulling for

you and so will your
& gt; other dear friends and

family members. Please try not to worry.

Just
imagine
& gt; how good you will be feeling

after the surgery is over.
& gt;
& gt;

Love,
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;
& gt;

I have a stricture of the common bile duct. No one knows why???? A

whipple is more or less a re-sectioning of the digestive track. They

remove most of the bile duct, some of the pancreatic, small intestines,

gall bladder, dudeum (sp), a little of the stomach. Then they hook it all

back up together and hope it all works.

I will wake up with a tube from my nose to my stomach. Four other tubes

and a feeding tube. Some of tubes I will come home with for a week or two.

They told me to expect to loss my appetite for maybe a month.

Gladually I will be put back on food. I will never be able to eat fried or

spicy foods. Eating is going to be a trial and error deal. I will not be

able to eat a large mean but 5 small meals a day. These restrictions won't

be hard for me. I don't eat meat or dairy anyway. I hope I haven't

confused all this. It is through that I have learned so much about

this problem and surgery.

Hope you are having a good day.

hi, just checking in after my surgery. it wasn't a good experience. i had to

be there at 8, my surgery was at 9. they wheeled me down at 10:15!!!! i was

home by noon. they got me to the room. asked me what i wanted to drink. some

guy shoved a boot on my foot, they told my parents to come in. got me a

wheelchair and away i went. as soon as i stood up i felt it pulling my

stitches. just put me in the car. well of coarse my foot swelled even more

that day. my heel wasn't anywhere near the botton of this cast. i couldn't

walk at all. it was horrible. i called the office 3x's because they gave me

vicodin. called another 2x's about the cast. we were trying to figure out how

to get me downstairs with my mom and dad. thank god for my computer chair!!!

that is how i got around most places!!! i got a bigger boot yesterday and

some crutches. even used my cane a little this afternoon. my boss called and

basically told me i am ok as long as i am on disability. but when i come back

they will do what they have to do. whatever this means. i am assuming i am

going to be let go. the entire dept will be eliminated 2/1/02. also got a

call and they are afraid to give me remicade again with all of the reactions

i have had. but without insurance i couldn't do remicade anyway. so guess

i've got to find something else anyway. i go for my f/u appt saturday. kathy

Kathy,

I am so sorry that you had such a terrible experience with your foot surgery.

They say that outpatient surgery is wonderful, but not in all circumstances.

I have had similar experiences with my various knee surgeries, sometimes to

the point of ending up back in the ER later the same night. I hope that

better days are right around the corner for you. Please take care and hang

in there.

Gentle, tender, angel hugs,

Deb

Dear Kathy,

Where in Illinois are you? I'm about 30 miled south of Chicago, not too far

from Indiana.

Since I've only been back a little while, I got a little confused and

couldn't figure out why you had a cast and boot when you had stomach surgery!

Then I checked back messages and realized that was Lynn. But I didn't see one

about your surgery - may have just missed it, but what happened?

I'm sorry it wasn't a good experience - but then, surgery usually isn't,

unless I can lose 30 lbs. that way. The important thing though is whether the

surgery corrected the problem, and I hope it did.

Do you think you may be eligible for SSD? Or at least unemployment comp?

I hope everything works out for you, and will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Kathy. I'm glad your surgery is over, but wish it wasn't

such a bad experience.

Once I had to wait 4 hours for outpatient surgery. It is

rough waiting so long.

I hope the surgery is a success and you feel better soon.

they just rushed. even my dad was freaked out. the guy that put my cast on

couldn't remember what he said 5 seconds before. they never had me stand

before they sent me home. my foot was stuck. it was like it was just hanging

by my ankle (and the stitches) it was awful. the dr never spoke to my family

to tell him what he did/ or found. he was too busy in a hurry to get a round

of golf in!! i talked to him later in the evening. he said he would give me a

new cast or unwrap me in the morning. went there and he didn't come in.

(probably went to play more golf!!) good thing the nurse fixed me up and

asked the PT to come out and check me out. she got me the crutches. what a

bunch of crap!!!

not for loosing my job and insurance i would probably not have this one

Hi Lynn, Trying to catch up on all the happenings; as I have been out of town

and even though I've been home for a few days I haven't finished catching up.

Sorry about your upcoming surgery and I understand the doubts and fears you

are experiencing; as I had to undergo breast cancer surgery a year ago in

May, then 8 chemo treatments.

When I went to the surgeon for the one year follow-up

he found a lump, did biopsy, and it was benign. But I can assure you that

prayer, faith and trusting our Lord is the only way to get through these

times. Before the mastectomy I copied down the 23rd Psalm, and memorized it.

I carried my copy to the hospital with me just to remind me, The Lord is my

Shepherd. May all go well with you.

I too am fairly new to the support group. Think it is great to be able to

share with others who understand.

God Bless,

Becky

June,

You'll feel so much better after that nodule is removed. That's a horrible

location for a nodule, not that anywhere is great, but to have it on the bottom

of your foot is really painful. I hope it's as quick and painless as it can be.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
