Guest guest
Can someone have hashi's and hypoT symptoms just due to an iodine deficiency, and thus not require thyroid hormone, but rather, iodine replacement? I am beginning to suspect that I am VERY deficient in iodine and that it is the root cause of many of my health problems. However, I do not tolerate thyroid hormone very well, and cannot get over 1/2 grain without disconerting symptoms. I suffer from the following: Excess estrogen Fibroids severe premenstrual syndrome Fibrocystic breasts ovarian cysts very high testosterone very painful breasts growth hormone deficiency hypoT symptoms Multi-nodular goiter I am wondering if all I need is Iodine and not thyroid hormone, and if my need for iodine is affecting my ability to take a tolerate thyroid hormone.....? Any feedback would be appreciated PS: I have not done a loading test, but I have done a skin patch with liquid iodine and it was gone in 4 hours. Is it safe to assume that between the skin test and all of my above maladies that I am indeed deficient and to just go ahead and take the Iodoral on my own (no doc)? So far so good: Iodine, weight loss etc. I started 52 mgs Lugol's iodine daily on 8/12/06. Ihave more energy than I've had in a while, and mytemperature seems to be increasing a bit. I've lost 3lbs so far, which is great. I hope that continues--Ihave put on 10 lbs in the last year. One day Iaccidentally added nine drops (58.5 mgs) to my juiceinstead of eight (52 mgs), and I really felt energeticthat day (could be coincidence or mental). I am alsolearning more about the Weston Price nutrition recsand have incorporated cod liver oil, eggs, ghee, andother animal-based fatty foods in my diet, so it'sinteresting to me that I'm losing rather thangaining--I've always leaned more towards low, low, lowfat vegetarian diet. I'm using the WAP site'ssuggestions for vegetarians. I use the Calmsupplement mentioned. I'm also trying thehypothyroid supplement regimen Dr. Tom Cowanrecommended on the WAP site--I think someone hereposted this?:http://www.westonaprice.org/askdoctor/hypothyroidism.htmlAnyway, my Standard Process Thytrophin came today, soI will be adding that to my regimen. BTW, in caseanyone else is interested in trying this regimen, thisis the website where I get SP products:http://www.myhealthstore.com/I think I can use extra thyroid support as well as theadrenal support. (I use whole salt, licorice, ginseng, and astragalus for adrenals.)I'm not having many really uncomfortable detoxsymptoms w/ the high-dose iodine; however, I did wantto take some Advil (but didn't) this morning becausemy molars w/ amalgam fillings were aching. Thanks again for all the helpful information! I suffer from the following: Usually, the inability to tolerate thyroid hormone has to do with adrenal cortisol insufficiency. The solution is hydrocortiosone 5 mg 4 times daily, and should be started a day or two before thyroid treatment. Sometimes the adrenal insufficiency clears up when the thyroid is treated, as low thyroid causes energy problems for the adrenals. In other cases, the hydrocortisone needs to be permanent. Guest guest
Im new here, but am very interested in your posting. I have been diagnosed with Severe Atypical Uterine Hyperplasia, and I feel I also have an iodine deficiency. I also have all of these symptoms, and have had for about 10 years now, except the PMS one (age related) and dont know about growth hormone ones, have a lump in my thoat too, my voice is now very deep and people who phone think Im a man. My previous GP didnt want to know, (I did not pester him, he was just not interested). Id had abnormal smears for over 10 yrs. and not been notified !! I have moved now and have a new GP who had me scanned and checked within 4 days. Id started to think I was just imagining these things, even though I have some medical experience, having to sit Human Anatomy & Physiology for my healing, Reiki & crystal healing. Any information you can give me would help, as I have a hospital appointment on 7th September, when the Consultant insists I have a hysterectomy or I wont survive. I was told this last September too. Im improving daily, due I suspect to my supplements. Your site is so imformative and I feel I am not going mad now that I see other people are having similar problems. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Maggie, Yes, it does seem like you may have an iodine deficiency. I recall reading that it is best to paint on iodine as close as possible to the place with the problem, even heard of one example where a doctor painted iodine on the cervix of a patient. Painting like that in addition to oral high dose iodine (50-100mg) is what I personally would be considering if I had your condition. But I don't know the probability that it would take care of your problem. I just read Dr. Derry's book on iodine and breast cancer. He gave one example where a woman refused treatment for breast cancer and he told her to paint Lugols every day near the spot. It did work, but again, I can imagine other cases where it may not. I'm sorry I don't have anything more definitive to offer but I am wishing you the best! Guest guest
p.s., Maggie, > My previous GP didnt want to know, (I did not pester him, he was > just not interested). Id had abnormal smears for over 10 yrs. and > not been notified !! I have moved now and have a new GP who had me > scanned and checked within 4 days. This seems like malpractice to me. Had you thought about pursuing your legal options against this first doctor? If only to hopefully reduce the number of other women in the same situation. A lawsuit in your case seems like a public service. Take care, Sharon
Guest guest
Sharon, Thank you so much for your advice, I will try what you suggested. As for taking legal action against my previous GP - I did contact the Area Health Authority and there was a meeting where he had to give his reasons for his actions (or lack of) & he said "her husband was an alcoholic therefore she was ASSUMED to be a time waster." There was no excuse for that, but he was taken to task and ordered to put a letter in my medical records to state that he was mistaken about my alcoholism to my new GP. He has done this, but no further action was taken. I was in no position to take this further at that time, and it is too late now. Luckily my new GP is understanding and helps as much as possible. My husband, who has now passed, resorted to alcohol to try to mask pain from gunshot wounds received in Army service, along with PTSD as GP wouldnt give him anything stronger than co-codamol for shrapnel problems and anti-depressants "to get over it." He had no support at all, and died at 54 years. This UK NHS has let so many people down. Im just one of millions. Any further information greatly appreciated. I'm glad now you have a new caring doctor. Take good care, Sharon
