Guest guest
Interesting.... I have started taking Jiaogulan a few weeks ago, and really am feeling very well on it. I ran out, and have been tired the last couple of days, I need to reorder. I started taking it mostly because I read about it on my horse lists about increasing circulation, and increasing oxygenation in the blood, both of which are low in hypothyroidism. " Arizona, January 2002 I am most impressed with how many people respond to jiaogulan for adrenal support and building the Kapha energy for strengthening the upper respiratory system. It has become one of my top choices for healing weakened adrenal function.

Guest guest
Hi, I've read that Jiaogulan is superior to ginseng but isn't that just saying its another herbal stimulant? Guest guest
I just picked mine up at the health food store, and I had capsules. I'm out, and I've been run-down since I ran out (that, and my adrenal support herbs, so I'm not sure which it is), but I did reorder today, same brand though (Solaray). Guest guest
Here is some information, from very well-known Equine vet (Dr. Eleanor KEllon), who has done a lot of research into equine cushings and equine insulin resistance. One of the herbs she recommends for foundered horses (founder is the result of a metabolic action, which causes inflammation of the hooves, is extremely painful, but obviously cannot happen in humans because we don't have hooves, but we do suffer from very similar metabolic issues). Anyway, here are some snippets: " The Jiaogulan has some anti-inflammatory properties but compared to other medications and drugs they are relatively weak. Where it excels is in encouraging the production of a small molecule called nitric oxide, which is an important messenger/signal molecule whose functions among other things is to maintain good circulation through the tissues, relax the blood vessels to allow flow. An initiating event in laminitis is severe constriction of the blood vessels and chronic laminitis has been shown to be associated with elevated levels of body chemicals, such as endothelin, which cause vessels to contract and shut down. When you start Jiaogulan, if the primary cause of the pain is vessels being constricted the response is rapid (1 to 3 days) and very dramatic. If you also have actually damaged blood supply and good circulation is going to require that new vessels grow into the damaged area, it will take longer (one to several weeks). Another thing that can delay the response, even mean the horse may get dramatically worse for a few days before it gets better, is smoldering abscesses. Even when responses aren't quick, you will still either see at least some improvement or stabilization to the point that you can stop the pain drugs like bute or banamine, which is a big step in the right direction because long term use of these can worsen circulation. " snip " The following may reduce the effect of Jiaogulan and should be avoided: u Ginsengs and other herbs that have some nitric oxide stimulating potential, such as Hawthorne u Grapeseed u Resveratrol u NSAIDs (bute, Banamine, etc.) u Anti-inflammatory herbs such as Devil's Claw, possibly also Boswellia, Curcumin since it is unknown if their effects are selective for inflammatory nitric oxide pathways Potential Drug Interactions Jiaogulan, like any herb with the potential to alter the way the body functions, is a drug. There is the potential for a horse getting Jiaogulan to have an exaggerated reaction to drugs which lower blood pressure, such as tranquilizers/sedatives or general anesthetics, and drugs or herbs which influence blood clotting.
