Guest guest
There is probably nothing wrong….same thing happened to me and the doctor said the genes determining eye color are just very confused. My newborn (six weeks old) has one blue and one brown eye. My neice (my sister's daughter) has the same thing so I am assuming it is genetic. The pediatrician wants me to take her to the optomologist at three months. I am nervous that something is really wrong. Guest guest
More than likely it is nothing. I have had a blue eye and a brown eye since birth. It has never caused me any problems. Obviously, the smart thing to do is have it checked. Take care, Ed > > Hi everyone, > > I just joined the group. My newborn (six weeks old) has one blue and > one brown eye. Guest guest
Hi Trbak: Warmest congrats on your baby!!! It sounds like you're worried. I know from personal experience it's hard not to jump to conclusions. Yet I know it's best not to assume anything. I can't see how the color of the irises would effect sight since iris color have nothing to do with seeing. Good luck with you, your baby and all your family. PS. I was born with Waardenburg. Now I wonder if I was born with my different colored eyes. I always thought you didn't get your permanant eye color or colors until at least you were six months. Now from looking at the baby photos here in the photos section I'm not so certain of this. Happy Holidays Lynda
Guest guest
Hey My son was born last march with two different coloured eyes... we had a debate in the emergency room as to whether his eyes were blue or brown. Turns out he had one of each! I was worried too, especially because it's hard to tell with newborns if their sight is affected or not. My doctor and my optician wouldn't even bother checking him over, they were both convinced he's fine, which at the time was even more frustrating! He's now 9 months old, his blue eye has turned a lovely shade of greeny-blue, and his brown eye is still very dark brown, and he is totally fine. His vision is A1, he can pick me or my partner out in a crowd, and no matter how much I hoover the carpet, he will always spot the tiniest speck or crumb as he's crawling about and swiftly pick it up to put in his mouth! Since he was born I found out my uncle (on my mother's side) has one brown and one hazel eye, and he has had no problems at all his entire life (he's now in his mid 60s). Your baby is probably fine too, and the check with your optician is just a precautionary measure, and is as much to put your mind at rest as anything else. Please don't worry, you have been blessed with a very special baby there, and people will always commenting on her eyes as she gets older. Maddie My new baby has hetrochromia ... Guest guest
Sight is usually not the " main " concern with heterochromia. They will be looking at the pigmentation pattern of her eye. The major concern of heterochromia is the fact that it may be a side effect of something else, such as melanoma cancer or glaucoma. I am not trying to frighten you, I just want to make sure your doctor knows what he/she is looking at. Thankfully our pediatrician had never seen it before and referred us to the local ophthalmologist, who in turn said he wasn't familiar enough with the disease and referred us to s Hopkins. > > Hi everyone, > > I just joined the group. Guest guest
hello there trbak, my left eye started changing when i was a kid. its now half brown/blue. And its spreading. it should be fully brown when im 40 (im 29). I dont think that anything is wrong. my mother was told it was just the pigment (she has green eyes and my father has blue). Ive 20/20 vision and dont wear glasses. Besides, I think it looks great and so does anyone who's ever commented on it. Anything different is good. ps some people who post messages are claiming its a 'disabililty'. Thats absolute crap - some people are just dying for attention. > > Hi everyone, > > I just joined the group. My newborn (six weeks old) has one blue and > one brown eye.
