Guest guest
Hi Sheila Congrats on your Implant. I too had the swelling, pain, dizziness, etc. I think everyone's experience with the surgery is different. Just rest and it will improve each day. I think it was a week at least, before I felt pretty good. I had my CI done in Nov of 1997. Hang in there and best wishes! Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was implanted last Thursday. I've read so many posts where people are saying they feel so great, no pain, etc. Well, I'm still having pain, swelling, dizziness, nausea, shakiness. Is this normal? I just want to feel better (but what I really want to do is go back to bed!)Sheila in MI
Guest guest
Hi Sheila! As one who's balance went out the window following CI Surgery, I am sorry you are feeling lousy after yours. As you have realized by now the surgery is a piece of cake for some while it's no picnic for others. Everyone is different so each person's surgery, recovery and hook up experiences will be too. It has not been a full week since your surgery so my advice to you is to rest as much as you can and pace yourself when you are not resting. Walk slowly and try not to move your head from side to side as you move. I always focused on a stationary object ahead me as I walked from the couch to the bathroom and back. Eat when you feel like it and eat what you feel like eating. The first two weeks, I didn't have meals. I ate things separate every 2 or three hours like applesauce one time then later toast, then later on a bowl of mashed potatoes and lots of soup in between naps. Imbalance is exhausting and the couch was my favorite piece of furniture during my recovery. It takes some time to recover from surgery and anesthesia so plan on taking as many naps as you want for the next week or so. Do you have a follow up appointment scheduled soon? Heck, I took 3 napas a day for 12 weeks. Are you on a med for the pain? Your doctor can call in a prescription if you aren't on one yet. And also, he could probably even show you some eye exercises to do for the imbalance you are experiencing. I finally got those in my second month of recovery and they have helped me a lot in getting adjusted to my imbalance. I am not saying YOU have imbalance. I don't know; but if you still aren't feeling well in anothe week or so there are exercises out there that can help with imbalance. Good luck to you! I know it's not easy. Just take things as they come and know that someday you'll feel better again. It took me 14 months before I could give up my couch days and say that I felt good again. No, my imbalance did not go away; but by doing exercises 3 times a day, I became adjusted to my imbalance and have become an expert two stepper over time. I'm just so glad to no longer feel sick like those first 12 weeks. Best wishes to you! I hope you feel better real soon. Remember to rest and pace yourself! And know that there is a hook up day to look forward to in the very near future! And what a day that will be! Patti Surgery Day 11/25/0-2 (What A Day!) Guest guest
Hi, Sheila in MI, I'm sorry you are feeling so lousy. It WILL pass. I've had a few of these surgeries and the first two only took me a week or so to recover from. The last one, to go bilateral, took over 2 months before I stopped being in pain, overly tired, and dizzy. Everyone is different, and every surgery is different, just like pregnancies and giving birth. If you feel really poorly, don't hesitate to call your doctor and put your mind at ease that nothing else is going on. Good luck! ) Jackie Implanted - right ear - Oct.2002 - Nucleus 24/3G Reimplanted - right ear - Jan.2005 - Nucleus 24C/3G Implanted - left ear - Sept.2005 - Nucleus-Freedom

Guest guest
Everyone is different--I was running full steam ahead hours after surgery--in fact for about 72 hours then it hit me. I had a lot of ear pain but nothing else. That lasted about a week then nothing. On 8/6/06, hugnrn123 <hugnrn123@...> wrote: > > Hi everyone, I was implanted last Thursday. Guest guest
, Why not try Neosporin or Vaseline instead of Bacitracin ointment. Maybe that will do the trick. I used Neosporin when I was implanted and after a week or two the discomfort was gone. a from L.A. Implanted with Freedom 8-
Guest guest
Same for me, about two weeks. I still use Neosporin, I'm guess my ears sit close to my head and I have some redness due to the processor sitting there! But I wouldn't trade it for the world. I just dab a little Neosporin when needed. Nina Re: just implanted > , > > Why not try Neosporin or Vaseline instead of Bacitracin ointment. Maybe > that will do the trick.
