Guest guest
I am curious, when those of you who had CI and hear people talking like " Duck, Mickey Mouse or having helium voice " did you all have the urge to laugh? Guest guest
Dolly, I laughed more after the fact because I was worried my hearing would remain that way but it did not.

Guest guest
Hi Dolly, I did. I laughed at activation, soon as I heard my audi's voice. Guest guest
Hi everybody who responded to the funny voices, I am not sure if this story is relevant to the current topic of funny voice, but I'll share it with you all anyway. The reason is it is I who made the funny voices. After the implant, I have never thought it was so easy to imitate other people's voice! I would easily pick up their speech and repeat what they said. They would stop and ask if they sounded like that. They were either surprised or offended (soft chuckle). I haven't had the opportunity to really watch the cartoon shows, but I watched DVD movies that have cartoons in it (i.e., Tim Burton's Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas). I could imitate some of the characters. A good example that really throws , my speech pathologist, off is that she asked me to say " memory. " I decided to say it as the way Elaine Paige (Grizabella) would sing it! I did the same thing when Jane, who is my good friend, asked me to swear. I would sing I Swear by All-4-One. She would get a laugh out of that. Guest guest
Dolly, I chuckled at the sound of my audi's voice and her laughter at my first mapping back in March. Her laughter sounded like Alvin from the Chipmunks. LOL! If I had not been sitting in her office right then and there, I would have sworn I had been transposed into an Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon. <grin> Left ear - Nucleus 24 Contour Advance with 3G Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Right ear - Nucleus Freedom Implanted: 2/1/06 Activated: 3/1/
Guest guest
Oh Sure! I remember so well when I was activated with my first implant. My audiologist sounded like a very high pitched math teacher gone berserk. I started singing I found my thrill on blueberry hill, then I was so amazed to hear my whiny voice I started crying. Things have improved so much and I certainly have a lot in which to be thankful!
