Guest guest
Just as a point of information: I have 2 3G's and 2 Freedom processors. I always have all of them mapped when I go in for an appointment. We map one processor, with the 3G it is easy, and takes only a few minutes to put that map into my backup 3G. For the Freedom, where mapping is better done while the processor is on your head, we map that, too. Again, it only takes a few minutes to load the map we make for the one processor into the other. Hope this helps. ) Jackie
Guest guest
Jackie, What you described is exactly the way my 4 processors (two 3Gs and two Freedoms) are mapped as well. I have a question though...What did you mean when you said the Freedom is better mapped when on your head? When my processors are mapped, I set T and C levels and then listen to my audi's voice for any changing/tweaking that needs to be done. Is this what you were referring to? Sorry...Perhaps I'm having an " off-day " and didn't understand that part of your message. <smile> Left ear - Nucleus 24 Contour Advance with 3G Implanted: 12/22/04 Activated: 1/18/05 Right ear - Nucleus Freedom Implanted: 2/1/06 Activated: 3/1/
Guest guest
Hi, I purchased by second (back up ) back up processor direct from Cochlear America's headquarters. Cost $3,000.00, but it also came with all the supplies, etc. that the original one came with. I use a long cord on it, and I can switch it to either ear. Don't care about the hanging cord, just want to hear whatever I can. It's the implant in the head that gives us speech not the ear. It works especially well when I'm in the car so that I can hear the driver when I'm a passenger by putting it on my left ear. I am implanted on the right side which was my worse ear. Both are bad...over 90% gone and can't hear without it. Surgery October 10th, 2005 Turned on November 17th, 2005 Freedom by Cochlear
Guest guest
As a matter of interest, how much ($$$'s) does a " spare " Freedom processor cost in the US, please? Guest guest
Ted.. pretty pricey they are.. I'm not sure of the exact cost of the freedom, but I do know the Esprit 3G is right around $6000 U.S. so, I imagine it'd be between $6000 and $7000 for a spare. Sooo for those whose insurance won't cover a 2nd processor.. it could very well be out of price range for many, Regards, Silly MI I'll try and check this out and get an exact price today sometime. Guest guest
Ted I think the cost may vary depending on the center where you were implanted/purchase the second one. I did not receive a second processor from my center upon implantation, however, I was told that I could purchase one from them. Connie " Ted F. Guest guest
Just wondering if they might sell refurbished processors? After all while our processors are still under warranty that is what they send us when needed. Works fine for me too. I'm sure they won't be so pricey too. Does everyone know? Guest guest
Thanks, . That is an expensive " spare " . I think I had heard the figure AUS$10,000 mentioned here. Guest guest
There was a Freedom external unit being sold on E-bay a while back. Unfortunately the auction was pulled, largely due to some uninformed hysteria (ironic considering there is no problem at all about selling hearing aids, artificial eyeballs and other prosthetic devices on E-bay). That would have given a good indication of what the market will pay. > Re: Back-up processors > > > Thanks, . Guest guest
Thanks, Connie. Now all I need are the six winning numbers in Saturday nights Lotto :-) Ted F. > > Ted > > I think the cost may vary depending on the center where you were > implanted/purchase the second one.
