Guest guest
Patti: My heart goes out to you about your father. Many smoke alarms sold in hardware stores, etc. have flashing strobe lights. If you are a sound sleeper, though, this might not be enough to wake you. I have a vibrating alarm clock I got from Communications ( _http://www.harriscomm.com_ (http://www.harriscomm.com) ). They have a wide range of products and might have what you need. Guest guest
Patti, Sorry to hear about your father. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Please keep us updated. I bought my first Sonic Boom alarm clock at the Silent Auction that our SHHH Chapter holds each year. It was not enough to get me up since I had the habit of rolling over to the other side of the pillow and falling back to sleep. I've been late for work many times but my bosses are very understandable. I bought another one in Omaha at the SHHH Convention. I put each one in a sock and pin them to my pillowcase, one on each side. Now if I roll over, the other one will get me. No more pushing them " out of the way " so they will leave me alone and let me sleep. I love the snooze button! Can't you tell I'm not a morning person? 3:00 AM is not really morning for most people but it's rise and shine for me. I bought a doorbell system with flashing lights at Lowes about 5 years ago but the lights would flash once every so often and make a chirping sound even when no one was at the door. This system requires no wires but uses a battery on the outside switch and plug in lights for the inside. I no longer use them. I do not have any smoke alarms with strobe lights but I'm interesting in seeing what others use here. Sharon Myers Bialteral CI user ************************************ Patti wrote: Hi Everyone! It is with a heavy heart that I type this message. My dad is in bad health right now and has been in the hospital since last Tuesday due to heart problems. I need to look into buying a vibrating alarm clock and smoke detector since I no longer have a reliable person to wake me up. I am asking your opinions for what to get and where to buy it. I know there is the Alertmaster; but I don't know how good it is. My next door neighbor has the sonic boom alarm clock and loves it but no smoke detector and I don't know what website is reliable to buy from. I need both in order to stay at home alone. In the meantime I am staying with one of my sisters until more of my siblings come home to visit. I was wondering if these things can be paid for by Medicare/medicaid insurance? Any feedback would be very much appreciated either to my email address or to the forum. Thank you all so much! and Jarom and anyone else who faced surgery in past week. I have not been ignoring you. I have just not had much energy, at night to be reading the posts. I hope your surgeries went well and that your recoveries are going well. I wish you the best on hook up day. Good luck to you all! I don't know when I will back to reading all the posts; but will check for any feedback about alerting devices. It does not look too good for my dad right now and I am very sad about this latest CI Moment I'm experiencing. It's horrible to hear a loved one so breathless. You all take care and good luck to all of you just starting your journeys out of silence, best wishes to those of you facing surgery and hook up and my very best wishes to all of you who are still struggling with the CI. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Jackie, Nan, K, Laurie and , Thank you all for your feedback and kind words of support to my family and me. I really appreciate it. Today was a good day for my dad and hopefully (fingers crossed here because he has had good days before only to take 2 steps backwards the past week) more more good days will follow. Tomorrow he faces 2 more tests that will tell us how soon he can come home. I'm hoping that it won't be much longer. I really miss the guy and being home at night. Looks like the Alertmaster 6000 is the way to go in order to have both a vibrating alarm clock and a vibrating smoke detector. You all take care and thanks again for your feedback. Guest guest
I hope your dad is doing better and/or you have been able to move back home. Communications is good and I also know of a person on another listserve I belong to called the " say what club " for deaf and HI folks, mostly late-deafened or severely HI. Anyway Curtis has an online store for ALDs and warning systems and the like at http://www.hearing-loss-help-co.com/. I have worked with him on trying an ALD and he is very knowledgable as he is HI himself. Just wanted to give you another option. in SC
Guest guest
Hi ! Thank you so much for the links to the websites and for your kind words. So far so good with my dad. He is still in the hospital but hia latest tests have come back good so we are hoping that means discharge is not too far away. On Saturday, my second oldest brother is coming home to stay for two weeks, so I will be staying at home starting this weekend. As much as I love my sister and her family, I will be glad to be back to the house that I call home. Enjoy the rest of your week! Guest guest
Thank you, ! I just did a search, and found out what Silent Call was and was going to post to tell you to ignore my question. I'm not sure about Silent Call. Will have to look at it more since I haven't heard of the name before now. Do you have experience with their products? Thanks again for your feedback!
