Had a lot of people over this weekend and lots of kids, even harder to understand, i just pretended to understand them. My hun knows how frsutrated i get, i retreat to myself, the sweet man went out and bought me a new book i've been wanting, to get my mind off it, dang it, i finish it too. lol But lately, I've been smiling, too. Keep reminding myself " I'm going to understand better in the future, just bear it " lol I love hearing from people who has CI on how they understand better, even hearing annoying noises, I'm looking forward to it, gonna drive e1 nuts, " what's that?!? Bear in mind that children's voices are very high pitched, and everyone loses the high frequencies first. Even people with typical hearing often have lost a lot of high frequencies. My friend's husband was told he needed a hearing aid because he couldn't hear high frequencies like women and children's voices. They had 8 kids. His reply was " Good, don't want to hear them " . LOL. Hun sounds like a keeper. What was the book? I can't recall buying a new book in ages (except Harry Potter in hardback). Generally go to the thrift stores like Goodwill and buy used paperbacks for a quarter. Or garage sales. Friends of the Library has book sales and a bag for $3 on the last day. Can I pack books into a bag? YOU bet. It took me about 3 months to get to where I'm hearing like I do now, so don't expect instant understanding with the first map. Indeed; I was wondering why I went through all the surgery and stuff to have annoying noises in my head! But with more mappings and time, it became lots better. Those folks who hear and understand perfectly with their first mapping make me nuts. I think it's probably people who were only deafened a short time before being implanted. With the CI nothing is in the ear so I find it much more comfortable. Re: Stacie Tnanks! He's a good writer, enjoy all his books. is the Nuc Freedom, saw it on website, feels as comfy as hearing aid? I noticed the way i sit all the time, my hand propping at the side of my head, is that something i'm going to have to change? I was born severely/profoundly deaf but did very well on hearing aids until October last year when I suddenly lost my residual hearing in my most depended on ear. I so relate about being fed up of asking people to repeat things. What else? I live in Australia and am mum to a hearing toddler. No, it's much like wearing a BTE HA without the ear mold and without the incessant whistling but with better speech understanding. I have been wearing a CI for 4 years and now with 2 of them I still haven't set off any alarms. Happy Hearing! That's about the time i started having extreme trouble with my dependable ear, everyone thought my new BTE was not working right anymore, but i knew otherwise. I was always able to hear little of my voice and if everyone talk sooooo loud without the aid, i would hear something, but now i cannot hear my own voice unless i have the BTE on. More bout me, live in west virginia and want to be a mum someday! and want to know how to drive a car, lol. The big difference is that you have no mold in your ear but you do have the BTE sitting over it. Also, it depends upon where your magnet/transmitter is placed behind/above your ear. I adjusted easily enough to where I place my hand. As for setting off alarms, no I haven't tripped any of the mall style alarms. I have set off a court security system and I know I can set off airport ones as well. My last time I had to do the full body search routine as they prefer that over tripping the alarm. Guest guest Posted May 7, 2006 Report Share Posted May 7, 2006 I know how I'll feel, I've have 2 previous surgery (gallbladder out and hiatal hernia) and already know what I'm going to eat, lol. One of my roomie will be making Fluff, I'm still not sure what that is, but good and not require to chew, and my mom will be getting me mash potatoe and gravy from KFC like she did before lol. I'll be sleeping and my neice (attach to me) will be right by my side playing with her new DS while I'm sleeping lol. I basically have talked to everyone and have huge support system for my recovery time. My hun and other 2 roomies will entertain the folks and cook for them while I eat my mash potatoe n gravy lol. I really like the advice on wearing button up shirt, I haven't realized that, will borrow my hun's lol. Missing the news on Di, you really stayed asleep lol.
