Guest guest
Thank you for your suggestions, I am going to give it my best shot! Off to my treadmill.........30 minutes a day and 64 oz of water daily.......I am trying to concentrate on that too. Best of health to all, Cheryl Iowa
Guest guest
, My babies are doing very well. We are getting ready to have their first birthday next month. I am a bit partial, but they are beautiful girls. I agree we need to change our habits early on. I do believe that most of us have more than habits to change. Many of us have serious hang ups with food. It is the " friend " we turn to for comfort, entertainment, enjoyment, etc. Changing is easier said than done(at least for me). Thanks for replying. Aren't you also a teacher? > > > > > > > > Any other old timers here still? Guest guest
Hi, That is common for 5 years out your gut adapts and there is some weight gain. The good news (along with the bad) is that a revision is always possible with MGB and as you said you are down 100 lbs. .... DrR Re: 5 years post op I got down to around 166 after reconstructive surgery. I am at about 232 now. So in the realms of surgery I am still down hundred pounds, but the gain has to stop. > > > > Any other old timers here still? I am 5 years 2 months post. Guest guest
My gut better not even plan to go there. I don't want to dance a third time, even though you are a great dancer. LOL. Guest guest
Yes, that was me. You might look into Weight Watchers core ... you might be able to fit the foods that you " like " (not cookies obviously) into that plan. You will figure it out ... have faith! in GA > > > > > > > > Any other old timers here still? Guest guest
I had surgery June 2000. Very hard to maintain 185 lbs. I was 260 and 5'7 " I believe the true test of sucess is what you weigh 5 years after surgery. I believe if I didn't watch myself I could gain it all back. Last night I threw up " bile " haven't had this happen in over a year and then it rarely happened. But it is nasty and painfull. Would love to hear from " Old Timers " and how they are maintaing their weight loss.
Guest guest
Hi all, I had my MGB Jan 2004. Prior to surgery I weighed roughly, 360 lbs. I lost 195 lbs and have added 20 back and seem to have leveled out at about 175. This puts me in a size 8 (I can live with that). Prior to surgery I had 3 blood pressure pills and was on 2 meds for asthma as well as an inhaler several times a day. I had cardiac myopathy and was on 40 mg of lasix a day. So, here's what's changed. Heart fine, no lasix for fluid. No asthmas meds. I keep and inhaler around but because it doesn't get used unless I'm congested with a cold, it ends up expiring and I have to get it refilled. I am down to one blood pressure pill and my bp is 110/70. I was size 28 and now am size 8 or med. I have always carried weight interestinly and at my lowest 155 wore a size 4. I had a tummy tuck, thigh lift and arm lift at 2 years out. They need to be repeated as there was alot of skin. I'm hoping to do a the legs this summer. Issues: I deal with vit D and calcium deficiencies and see and endo MD for that. I am on perscription vit D and Cal. and have blood work done every 3 months to make sure it's the right dose. I have dealt with indegestion and acid reflux and a few occasions. After having done the nexium route I have started treating it with vitamins and homeopathically this past week. Stopped the nexium and now take MSM and digestive enzymes. I have NOT had any indigestion since starting these. A doctor friend who specializes in holistic meds recommended them. I take chewable vitamins daily and zinc, biotin, and folic acid in addition to the MSM and digestive enzymes. I take chewable form of all vitamins and use the powder MSM because it makes me feel more comfortable that they are being absorbed. I do have gas and carry a small lysol in my purse for public places. Personally, it's been a rough 5 years. My husband died Christmas Eve 2004 from complications from surgery. I highly encourage anyone have the MGB to only have Dr R or Dr. P do it and only at a center where they have done many of them. I eneded up resigning from my position as it was too much to handle and have had to re focus my career and help my children, who are still dealing with the loss. In addition, 10 months after my husband's death, my then 10 year olds best friend died of cancer at age 10. Eight months later we found my dad on his kitchen floor, he had passed away. So, to say its' been all good is not accurate. However, I did get married again to a wonderful man who loves me, loves my children and honors their father. Would I do the MGB again....OH YES. Are there compromises.....yes. I do not drink alcohol. I do not drink coffee. I do have hot tea about once a week and one glass of soda about once a month. Funny story about the alcohol. About 2 years ago I decided to have 1 glass of wine. I sipped it over a 2 hour period and 2 hours after that was still too tipsy to drive. I need to work out more and hopefully as life is starting to settle down I can focus more on this. My eating varies. Some days I'm famished and other days I hardly eat. I have some lactose intolerance. I can eat cheese but not much milk or ice cream. I sometimes have difficulty swallowing and the food comes back up. Doesn't matter what it is. Can be meat or soft foods. I do feel that this is sometimes stress related and will happen and then not happen again for weeks. I plan to see a gastro doctor to check it out, just haven't gotten to it yet as I want to see if it goes away as life is settling down. So, that's my experience. I wish you all success in your journey. Ham mom to , age 13 (nothing like a 13 year old girl with hormones....thank God) and Cassie, age 11. Guest guest
Gongrats on your journey to great health. I do have a question, I am looking into the different options of surgery and am interested in this type. Might you share where you had this done. I am in upstate NY. Thank you for your response. > > Hi all, > > I had my MGB Jan 2004. Prior to surgery I weighed roughly, 360 lbs. I lost 195 lbs and have added 20 back and seem to have leveled out at about 175.
