Guest guest
Penny and All. I seen a lot of conversation about getting over-filled and having to get an unfill. Do you have any advice for where to start? I have the size band that holds 4cc. I know each person is different, but did most of you start at 1cc or less or more? And, is it presumptuous to go to the doctor and tell him how much fill I want? I don't know these guys in San Francisco yet. They are experts and may prefer to make a recommendation based on questions they'll ask me. Any advice will be much appreciated. Thanks. Phyllis I'm back from my travels! Hi EveryoneWe have been traveling around visiting grandchildren who were in plays and also graduating from high school. We have been to Casper Wyoming, sbluff Nebraska (twice--once for graduation and once for an unfill), Wendover, Nevada and Elko Nevada and of course back home to Colorado. When I finally got back to the message board there were over 500 messages to read! I still am about 100 short but will get to them. I am so glad to have heard from , Dawnita, Tracie Bartek, and Vesper not to mention all the "regulars" and newbies! I spent the whole afternoon getting caught up and it felt like I was having a visit with a lot of old friends.I had a surprise unfill last Friday and it has made soooo much difference in how I feel. All of you who can not eat solid food should really consider checking to see if you need a slight unfill. It may prevent slippage and do the work it is supposed to do to help you lose weight. Good luck to all of you who are being banded soon and welcome back to those who have just been banded!Penny Manville from ColoradoDOB 9/26/05230/174.5/135 5'4"3 fills, 1 unfill= 1.7cc55.5 lbs gone forever! Guest guest
Phyllis D., The fill Dr. will probably start filling you with 1-2cc, have you sit up and drink. If your able to drink and swallow ok then your done. If you have difficulty drinking water or your own spit or are salivating alot, then you are too tight and they can un-fill some until you are able to. Each fill for each person is different due to the size of your abdominal wall. My first fill was 1.5cc and then unfilled the next day down to .8cc. My second fill was an additional .5cc for a total of 1.3cc at 4 months post-op. Some get 2cc on the 1st fill and do fine. It's really up to your Body to tell you how much is enough. Good luck, Dana --------- I'm back from my travels! Hi EveryoneWe have been traveling around visiting grandchildren who were in plays and also graduating from high school. Guest guest
Hi Phyllis My first fill was 1cc it lasted me for 3 months and was a good fill. I told the Dr. to do a usual fill but I really didn't want to be overfilled because my daughter was overfilled and I saw all the problems she was having. He started with 1.5 cc but backed it off because he said he could feel pressure at that fill. My second fill was .5 cc and lasted about 3 months. It was fine and lasted about 2 months. It was when he " tweaked " it that he got too much so he pulled out .1cc and it felt soooo much better. I think that if your fill Dr. is experienced you can just kind of let him know if you want him to be conservative or aggresssive and let him use his judgement. I think I might be at my " sweet spot " now but am not going to get on the scales until Saturday. I'll keep you posted on how that turns out! Penny PS hope this isn't a repeat but the first one didn't seem to send (I Hope) > > Penny and All. I seen a lot of conversation about getting over- filled and having to get an unfill. Guest guest
Thanks, Dana. I'm glad to know they fill, test, and potentially unfill before I go back home and find out it was too much. Guest guest
Thanks, Penny. (no, I didn't get a "first one"). It sounds like it's very individual. I like your suggestion that I tell the fill dr. if I want to be conservative or aggressive or somewhere in between and let him decide what to do. I just got home from a board meeting and dinner and it was a wonderful meal. I had no trouble eating a small cesar salad, part of a piece of salmon and a few asparagus spears. That seems like a lot of food. I like being able to eat "semi-normally" but I know the risk, so I will plan for a fill pretty soon. Thanks for the information! Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, I had my one and only fill from Dr. Aceves and he determined how much to put in by how the barium & water " flowed " through the band while we watched it on the Fluoro-scope (sp). He gave me 1.9cc's. I did GREAT and lost like crazy for the next 2.5 months then " that BRAIN thing " kicked in and I suddenly felt deprived and I've been a naughty bandster for awhile now and stuck at 216. I'm getting back on track and fighting the head hunger monster. I'll be VERY interested to know how thing go with the SF fill doctor so PLEASE keep me posted. Hopefully we can get together one of these days when life settles down... Liz in SSF > > Penny and All. I seen a lot of conversation about getting over- filled and having to get an unfill. Guest guest
I definitely will let you know. I would like to know how much it costs to have Dr. Aceves do the fill and to use the fluoro equipment (money to him; money to hospital). It might be a better deal to pay that plus airfare and go to Mexicali than SF! Bridge fare and parking at the Webster St garage at CPMC for a couple of hours could break the bank now-a-days! lol Phyllis I'm back from my travels!> > > Hi Everyone> We have been traveling around visiting grandchildren who were in > plays and also graduating from high school. Guest guest
It was approx. $65 US for the use of the xray room but Dr. A. doesn't charge for doing the fill. They're free for life!! Not a bad deal at all. Can you even imagine a US Dr. doing that for his patients!! I believe it went up to $75 US this year but it's still a heck of a deal. All you need is the time to get there and back. We're going to LA in August to drop our son at his grandparents for a week so I may try to squeeze a fill in that weekend if Dr. a. is available... Guest guest
Thanks, Liz. Sounds like it's definitely worth it to fly down again. Plus, I'd love to see all my wonderful caregivers again - the inpatient ones as well as the fabulous folks who work directly with Dr. A., not to mention seeing Dr. Aceves himself! Thanks for the info, Liz. Phyllis I'm back from my travels!> > > > > > Hi Everyone> > We have been traveling around visiting grandchildren who were in > > plays and also graduating from high school.
