Guest guest
I just had a question about the prescription strength compression stockings - did they work well with your edema? I have lymphedema due to cancer surgery (all lymph nodes were removed on both sides of my groin) and I'm having terrible swelling in my feet and ankles and the tops of my feets are really painful - kind of like each foot is one big bruise?! Anyway, I can't get in to see the vascular doctor until March 1, so I bought over-the-counter stockings at Walmart, but they don't seem to do anything. The vascular doc is supposed to measure me for special made ones (I think) so I was just wondering if yours worked well? Thanks for the input! Guest guest
Kellie, If you truly have " lymphedema " and not just swelling my advice is that you see someone who specializes in vascular problems. They can prescribe the stockings for you. You will actually have to be measured for them. I had to wear them for a while after my thigh lift for some disruption of the lymphatics in one leg with severe swelling in my foot on that side. It finally cleared up though. in GA > >Hi Peg, > > I too am a nurse, an OR nurse however. I had the MGB in August of > >2003 and conceived eight months later. I had no problems with my > >sugery. Guest guest
Kellie, The stockings worked wonders. I lost 30 pounds of water weight in one month after wearing them. Only problems is that they're extremely expensive. My insurance company didn't cover them. I had one pair of thigh highs that cost $80.00 and one pair of pantyhose that cost $130.00. I had to wear them every waking moment. It's best to shower at night and put them on first thing in the morning as you get out of bed. I had the same problem with the tops of my feet, extremely painful. If you buy over the counter compression stockings please stay away from the knee highs. Your edema, I assume, starts at your groin and gets progressively worse as it goes down your legs. It's difficult to find good over the counter thigh high compression stockings that actually work. I recommend Jobst brand. Try your drugstore. Until then, you can always get 4 6 " ace wraps and wrap your legs from the feet up.
