Guest guest
Have been without salt for 26 days now and I am a different person. It's been a little longer for me but it's amazing how much better food tastes without salt. If I accidently eat something even with a faint faint touch of salt I have to spit it out because of the taste. And giving up salt was really hard for me. I didn't think I'd be able to do it. Guest guest
The difference this time being no salt, no fats and no enervating spices. When I went off sugar, salts and fats the same thing happened to me. I'm NEVER constipated and all of a sudden, after 2 days...nothing!! Freaked me out. I was eating tons of fruits and veggies. I finally decided that I have to have some fats. I had no lubrication. From that day on I had a tablespoon of either olive oil or flax oil on my salads, and I never had the constipation problem again. Guest guest
Saturday is the end and then I will go back a tad bit of fat, just to see. Like I said...I'm never constipated. I'm one of those at least 2-3 times a day people. And when this happened I couldn't figure it out. I instinctively felt it was the lack of any oils causing the back up. Guest guest
By the way Gloria, how long have you been away from salt consumption, if I may ask? Hmmm...maybe about 4 months now. 11 months without sugar. Gloria
Guest guest
Hi Shari and Gloria, Very well done to both of you for kicking the salt habit. Salt is a most insidious, addictive toxin. Unfortunately, unlike heroin and some of the other drugs, alot of us get hooked by the age of three, if not earlier. Nasty stuff. Sugar is little better but is much easier to kick than salt. It is truly wonderful to taste the true flavors of the food though isn't it? In health, Don SV wrote: > I hear you Gloria! My salt intake was ridiculous. I think, I KNOW, > it started as a kid. Guest guest
I know that it takes sugar three days to leave your body. I'm wondering about salt. I've been 26 days all fruit and veg (probably about 80/20%) and of all things, I'm constipated! Drinking lots of water, probably close to a gallon a day. Doesn't seem as though I have any peristaltic action and am wondering if it something that is ever going to return. I've been constipated most of my life, but never when I've gone all raw. The difference this time being no salt, no fats and no enervating spices. Thoughts on this, Don? Thanks, Shari
Guest guest
Are you eating any avo's or nuts? Have you considered fasting for a spell to allow your digestive system to heal itself? It takes much longer for salt to leave the body as the body stores it in the most inaccessible places (just under the skin). I know that sounds strange, inaccessible, but it is much easier for the body to remove the less caustic toxins and wastes as they are nearer to the exits. Yes, skin is an exit but most salt gets removed through the kidneys and not the skin, unless one is doing extreme manual labor in the heat and even then the majority of salt is still removed through the kidneys. But, due to its caustic nature, the body does everything it can to protect the more vital areas so it dilutes this poison with water and shoves it out under the skin to store it away from the more easily damaged internal organs and tissues. The no fats may be why you are being constipated. This is not a bad thing, necessarily in your case, but it would appear that your body is trying to tell you to allow it a break so it can heal. Just my thoughts. Food for though Shari. Don SV wrote: > I know that it takes sugar three days to leave your body. I'm > wondering about salt. Guest guest
Eating an avocado a day might be a better solution than using a fractionated food like flax seed oil or olive oil. Just a thought Gloria. However, if you are happy with your solution that is fine. Guest guest
My mom raised us without any table salt so I never had a taste for it. When I married he was a salt junkie and I slowly broke him of the habit. Now neither of us can stand the taste. It’s funny when his mom comes over and sees me cooking with fresh herbs. She always looks at me with disgust like I’m gonna poison her son or something hehe. Janet From: health [mailto:health ] On Behalf Of MorningGlory113@... Even talking about salt makes me salivate, even now. Oh, salt much harder for me than sugar too. But I can hardly tolerate it now. There is a homemade bread that a friend used to give me and I LOVE it. It's all whole grains and I simply went crazy over it. She gave me some last week (I hadn't had a piece in about 5 months), and when I bit into it the first thing I noticed was this salty taste. Now no one else would even notice it because the salt in this bread is so miniscule. But, from not having salt for so long it jumped out at me immediately. So I say I still crave it, but when I actually taste it, I don't like it. Gloria
