I am a little disappointed that I don’t see any

males posting to this group but at the same time I am not surprised. I fly out

of here (Eureka,

Ca) tomorrow Am and Surgery is Thursday. Jessie I think the name you are

looking for is Isopure.

My only real concern is the fills. I live in a rural

community that is often impossi ble to get out of in winter due to all roads

closed by slides. I can’t really afford the plane fare to San Diego for fills., it is outrageous because of the small

community airport, It is close to an 18-20 hour drive to Mexicali and I would only have at most 2

days. I only get one day off at a time. Anyway, my question revolves around the

fact that my doctor lin the Diabetes clinic up here is willing to learn to do

the fills if he is given the criteria etc. The problem would be if it was

necessary to do it with a fluoroscope, which we don’t have. The question,

finally, is how many of you have really needed to have it done with flouoscopy

versus just feeling for the port ang going for it?

I had no problem without flouro for my first fill, and I foresee none when I have the next one either. When I lie on my back, and press outward with my stomach I can feel the port quite clearly with my hand...and so can my doctor! I think it is great that your doc will get trained to do it. I would like to learn how to do it, and just travel around doing them in different parts of the country...I am a trained phlebotomist...so the needle part is no biggie.BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob "Iraida" 209/165/135 5ft 3inches ***30 lbs to GOAL!!*** See Mylatest photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/

Hi Craig,

I also live in an isolated community and am snowed in

a lot of the time. I go to a fill Dr. in a small town

in Nebraska. He is willing to work around my " snowed

in " days, and the fact that it is a 4 hour drive to

get there, but it has not been a problem. You really

don't need fills that often and it is not a truely

urgent matter at any time --unless of course, the band

slips which is very rare. Anyway, my Dr. does not use

the flouroscope and it has not been a big deal. I am

satisfied with how he does it and it only takes a few

minutes. It doesn't hurt and you still drink some

water to make sure everything is going down right. I

think it would be great to have your local Dr. learn

how to do the fills--wish someone up here at our

clinic would do it!

Best wishes to you on your new journey! My thoughts

and prayers are with you.

That's a cool idea, Dawnita! You could do fills and maybe even have support group meetings in various places. And, you'd be a walking ad for the band procedure! Phyllis

Dawnita, Your weight loss is such an inspiration. You are doing so great. I wish I was a little further a long but I just now have started excercising. Hopefully that will push me through. Dawnita it really is a a good idea, you could get the training, it

is not hard. In many places the doctor does not do the fill but

nurses or radiology technicions, etc.

There are some states that are so expensive, like Georgia that I am

sure you would have a long list of people wanting fills.
