re:// Could some of you give me some feedback?// 1. Are you sedated the night prior? – I drove from San Francisco to San Diego the night before surgery with my husband, so NO, I was NOT sedated!!! I was so excited about getting the surgery. Dr. Aceves even commented about how calm I was. No reservations or nervousness at all. I said my prayers, did my research and KNEW I had made the right decision. > 2. After the procedure how long did you have to wait before returning home? - My surgery was on a Thursday afternoon and we were back in San Diego at the crack of dawn on Saturday. We tried to make a break on Friday night, but Dr. A wasn't too keen on it! > 3. I am a director of operations and travel throughout the state of Texas in an auto a lot, how long do I need to wait before returning to work? Realize I cannot be out very long…… - I took 5 weeks off because of job related stress issues (I had it planned BEFORE I scheduled the surgery) but truthfully, I could have returned to work 4-5 days after surgery. I felt great. Never any pain, just a little discomfort at the large incsion.> 4. Most importantly, if you had to do it all over again would you have chosen this procedure at this particular location? - If I could figure out a way to have Dr. Aceves as my "primary care physician" I would do it in a heartbeat. He, his staff and the hospital facility are above and beyond top notch.Good luck with your decision and if I can be of any assistance just let me know...Liz, DOB: 8/11/05, 275/234/135, 1st fill: 11/25/05

Hi Ron, to help answer some of your questions.

Are you sedated the night prior ? I will not get a wink of sleep if not? Normally you go to the hospital in the morning of the surgery, and no sedation, just your liquid diet.

2. After the procedure how long did you have to wait before returning home? I personally was feeling so great that the next day I went and stayed in a hotel, however, the Doc likes to keep you for 2 nights in the Hospital

3. I am a director of operations and travel throughout the state of Texas in an auto a lot, how long do I need to wait before returning to work? Realize I cannot be out very long?? maybe 2 or 3 days, there is hardly any pain maybe some discomfort, this surgery and Dr. A is so great, no need to worry.

4. Most importantly, if you had to do it all over again would you have chosen this procedure at this particular location? YES YES YES

You couldn't ask for a better doctor and a better facility.

Curious and Scared!!!!!

Ok folks in cyber land, my big day is set to begin on the 2nd of March, turning 43 on the 5th of March I cannot think of a better present to give myself than a chance to get my body back in shape again. (Kind of like that bowflex guy lol) :o)

Anyway, I am a wimp, very afraid; I served in the military and would considered myself a brave man but putting my life into someone else's hand voluntarily if a bit terrifying. I guess what I'm asking for is some reassurance from some of you brave souls who've taken this journey. Could some of you give me some feedback?

Well folks that's about it from the wimpy section, if someone could help me on these questions I would be forever grateful.

1. Are you sedated the night prior – I will not get a wink of

sleep if not?

It depends on where you stay the 1st night. If you stay at the

hotel, probably not. If you are in the hospital they might. They do

give you meds to help you sleep after surgery.

2. After the procedure how long did you have to wait before

returning home?

1 day. I had surgery on Tue and flew home Thu morning.

3. I am a director of operations and travel throughout the state

of Texas in an auto a lot, how long do I need to wait before

returning to work? Realize I cannot be out very long……

Some people only need 3 or 4 days but I would plan to be out for a

week, just in case.

4. Most importantly, if you had to do it all over again would

you have chosen this procedure at this particular location?

YES and I would have chosen the same Dr. You will find he and his

staff go out of their way to make sure your stay/surgery go as

planned. They are knowledgable, caring, kind, helpful, proffessional

etc..... I could go on and on but I'm sure you understand what I'm

saying.

I hope this helps. Good luck on your journey.

Good luck on your date!

I can relate to your fear of giving somebody else control of your

body. I am a total control freak!

1. Are you sedated the night prior – I will not get a wink of

sleep if not?

I got a sleeping pill from the doctor becaue I did not think

I could sleep through the night either. It worked really

good.

2. After the procedure how long did you have to wait before

returning home?

I went back the next day. Maybe a little too fast but I

really wanted to see my babies :)

3. I am a director of operations and travel throughout the state

of Texas in an auto a lot, how long do I need to wait before

returning to work? Realize I cannot be out very long……

I am a big baby so it took me forever to get back into the

beat of normal life. But others here have gotten back on

their feet right away.

4. Most importantly, if you had to do it all over again would

you have chosen this procedure at this particular location?

I most definatelly would do it all over again. I love Dr. A

he is understanding, knowlegable, sincere and caring.

Nina, Yolanda, and all the others in his staff were

great. He treated me like a person not like a bank. When

it comes to medical procedures this has been the best care

care I have had all my life.

Good luck in your journey!

Hi ron, I'm happy to help. Here are my answers.

1. Are you sedated the night prior – I will not get a wink of sleep if not? I didn't get sedated...sorry. I hardly slept either :) I personally suffer from anxiety but Dr. A and his staff had me very well taken care of. They have this down to a T.

2. After the procedure how long did you have to wait before returning home? Two days

3. I am a director of operations and travel throughout the state of Texas in an auto a lot, how long do I need to wait before returning to work? Realize I cannot be out very long…… I'm a bigger wimp than you...I took the whole week off! I wanted to rest. I had to go up 3 flight of stairs (no elevator) and I didn't want to do that. I am the assistant to the director of administration for a university and I do alot of running around the campus on a daily basis, but guess what? They had to wait for me to feel up to going back. This was for me. Most people go back a couple of days after. Me being the wimp I am, took a whole week off to get the anesthesia out of my system and the energy back.

4. Most importantly, if you had to do it all over again would you have chosen this procedure at this particular location? With my eyes closed. Dr. A is the best. My local fill doctor though nice, should take lessons from him. No one has ever treated me like Dr. A. He's unique!

1. I actually had surgery the day I arrived...no need for the sedative the night before..and hey, if you don't sleep the night before...you may rest better after.

2. I stayed 2 nights in the hospital, and went home the third day...then...

3. I drove myself from my inlaws house to my house after they picked me up at the airport in Portland OR...I drove over 80 miles...and felt fine, other than tired.

4. I went back to work barbering ONE week to the day after my surgery, and other than some shoulder pain, I was absolutely fine.

The only thing I would do differently if I were to do it again...would be to practice chewing and chewing and slooooowing down my eating. I still sometimes get in too big of a hurry and it causes me to PB....even on things like BANANAs...I do tend to like them on the green side...not really mushy....lol.

I don't regret having this surgery tho...I am happier, healthier, and will live a fuller, richer life because of it...I have recommended it to others and it is helping them too!

Thank you very much, your answers to my questions were exactly what I

needed to know. I too suffer from anxiety and don't sleep with

something on my mind and this is truly something I live with daily.

I'm glad about the duration of the amount of loss time from the office;

I can work in from the house, but need to be out and about.

Your assessment of Dr. Aceves is consistent with everyone who has

responded to my posting.

Thank you and God Bless.

Dawnita,

Ah, to be back in the Northwest, I grew up in a town east of Olympia

call Aberdeen, WA. Moved to the south to finish college and have been

stuck here since. I'm living now in Dallas Texas which we haven't

seen rain in over 45 days.

I still go back once a year to get my fix of the cool ocean breeze

and my wife and I explore the tidal pools. My dream is to retire back

up there in the next 15 years however, the price of housing must come

down a bit or it's RV all the way but who cares just as long as we're

back.

Thank you very much for the info and advice, I can learn from your

experience.

God Bless,

Ron Covington

BMI 37.5

I'm 273lbs waiting to reduce to my goal of 175lbs which I was 12

years ago.

Celia,

Glad to know that the doctor will give me something to sleep with, as

you know the less sleep the more agitated one gets.

" Control freak " ! Boy, I've definitely heard myself as described as

that before, sounds like we both have that high " D " personality, the

controllers, dominant, and demand immediate results but fear someone

else taking control.

My plan is to arrive on Wednesday night and go thru the pre-blood

work and testing.

On Thursday I plan to have the procedure early as possible and stay

in the hospital until Saturday flying back to Dallas on Saturday,

rest on Sunday and be back in my office on Monday. (I hope).

Your opinion of Dr. Aceves and his staff are pretty much in common

with what everyone else has to say.

Thank you and good luck staying on track.
