Guest guest
Xenical and Citrucel Fiber pill 3 x day. Can very gradually increase the fiber to a maximum of of 50 pills a day. It sounds ridiculous but that is what it is. I have tried it and so has my husband and we never got past more than a few fiber pills a day. I can't imagine taking that many. You can call him to go over it, he is so willing to speak to you if you call. Kathy G./Atlanta 230/140 6/26/
Guest guest
What is this about? Is this a way for Mgber's who haven't lost enough to lose more? Can someone fill me in?
Guest guest
There was quite a bit of forum conversation about the " FAX " diet awhile back...probably at least a year ago. At the time, I nixed the idea because it involved a lot of pill swallowing (50 fiber pills a day! Yikes!) and I was on the fence about taking Xenical. The medication has not been found to be a great long-term solution to weight loss. In addition, because it blocks the absorption of fat (it does not work systemically and thus does not cause the stimulating effects of other diet pills) it can also block absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E, and K. We are already at risk for not absorbing appropriate amounts of vitamins, so I hesitate to recommend Xenical to MGBers. Having said all that, I am up about 10 pounds over my lowest weight (did that expected bounce, I guess) and I really want to lose that and a little more, and it has been tremendously difficult, even with eating less and cutting out refined carbs. Frustrating. I mean, I'm still doing OK, my BMI is under 25, and all that. But I have clothes that are now too small in my closet, and that really bothers me. So if I thought that taking Xenical would help, I'd consider it. It's probably a safer alternative than sibutramine (Meridia) or other amphetamines. The OTC version of Xenical will be called Alli, I think. Not sure of when it will be launched. It will be OTC, but will be behind the pharmacy counter so that the patient can be told how to take it, etc. It will also be half the dose of the Rx version. (60 mg vs 120 mg) Back to work...hope this info helps a little. I'd like it very much if Dr. Rutledge would " weigh in " with his clinical data on the FAX diet. If I knew it worked well, and didn't cause too much GI distress, I'd consider it. Joanie 5/25/04 Drs. Guest guest
I wrote Dr. R. some time ago for this and verified it twice. It is Fibre (50 tabs!!a day.worked up to) and Zenical. I worked up to 3 fibre caps at each meal and chickened out of going further. The thing is that the Zenical is for fat blockage and I was eating very, very little fat so didn't notice a change but I kept taking 2 a day with the 3 fibre tabs, just in case. Oh how desperate we become. d > > Does anyone remember Dr. R's formula for the FAX diet? This is fiber > and Zenical combo. Guest guest
Dr. R. recommended it because I was a slow loser after the MGB. My doctor prescribed the Zenical and my health plan pays for it but I was afraid to do that extreme amount of fibre. Citrucel is not available in Canada so I was using an all natural fibre pill. At 50 a day, I'd be going through a $16 bottle every two days! and never leaving the washroom, I feared! d > > > > Does anyone remember Dr. R's formula for the FAX diet? Guest guest
You need to get a RX from your doctor for the XEnical. Cant get it without a prescription. The Fax diet is supposed to help things along faster. ne > > > > Does anyone remember Dr. R's formula for the FAX diet? This is > fiber > > and Zenical combo. Guest guest
The diet is to lose weight when the surgery is no longer making the weight fall off or to spur on slow losers. Zenical is a very expensive prescription drug in Canada...I don't know about the U.S. d > > > > Does anyone remember Dr. R's formula for the FAX diet? This is > fiber > > and Zenical combo.
