Guest guest
Now this was just me...I did write something for family to read just in case...but it wasn't cause I was going to Mexico but because I was having surgery period. Mexico is just geographical in my mind...my worries was not the capabilities of Dr. A, but just my own fears and so forth...so I did write something up " just in case " though really when I got to Mexico I was calm as a cucumber once I met Dr. A and the staff...wished I had torn up the letter and here I am 5mths out doing great...and you'll do great was well. Your family is using any type of defense mechanism to get you to NOT do the surgery...remember the family dynamics will change cause you will be changing physically, and emotionally...YOU WONT BE THE FAT ONE ANYMORE...and that sometimes scares people, so they do stupid stuff like this. I had so many friends make jokes about me going to Mexico..>WELL WHO GOT THE LAST LAUGH...hmmm I DID!!!!! They're not laughing anymore after teh weight I've lost. Just know you are in good hands, you have a great support system here and once you lose the weight, just put the hand up and say " WHATEVER! " Take care and good luck to you! Guest guest
A friend of mine had her Lapband surgery done at a local hosital here in Florida. When we compared notes on treatment, before - during and after...she is sorry that she did not come with me to have hers done. She said that she never saw her doctor, and was rushed out of the hospital and sent home. All just so different then all of the experiences that you are reading about from all of our fellow bandsters. Surgery is always a serious endovor and should not be taken lightly. However, from the time that you meet Dr. A and the staff, you will know that you have made the right decision. My sister was not thrilled with my decision either, and would not let me go alone. She changed her mind, and was very impressed with how everything was done, and how nice everyone was. I would also not hesitate to do this again, or have a loved one go. No worries. Guest guest
Hello : I had the same thoughts. I was banded last friday (06/09). I can tell you a million times not to worry, but you will! Its only natural. I promise you when it is over you will be glad you had it done by Dr. Aceves. Remeber this.... Everyone that is telling you something bad is what I call "infomration ingnorant". They have not spent hours on the internet researching this thing, you, on the other hand you did. All of us on this message board are not fake people weve had the procedure done by Doctor A. I personaly used every possable phrase I could think of via Google, looking for anything bad about this doctor and never found ANYTHING. I want to take a quick minute to politly slam the American doctors doing this procedure; charging $15,000 to $30,000 and doing it as an out-patient procedure (they are making a killing). Dr Aceves pampers you like royalty, you will feel like your on a vacation. The Hotel you stay in is very nice (personal note for those not liking a firm bed, I would recomend purchasing one of the thin air matresses that you use in a swimming pools to put under the covers as the beds are VERY firm. The Hospital is very clean with large private rooms that include a very clean, and quite appealing bathroom. The nursing staff will be vigilant and the cleaning staff will be in your room regularly. One time they cleaned an mopped the room while my wife and I were present. The woman went around the room fanning the floor till it was completly dry for us I was so amazed that i tip her $5.00. I was actually sorry to leave when the time came. It was the most relaxing time I have had in recent memory. I also want to let you know that if your pre-op test are done the day before like mine was you are allowed to eat what you want till 10pm. Heck they got us Coke and Cookies while we waited for Ernesto to pick us up again and take us to the hotel. I may be rambling but i just had a lot of good thing to say. If you would like to talk on the phone let me know and I will send you my cell phone number Sincerely Ken Hi, I am leaving for Mexico to get banded friday morning. Guest guest
Hey , You are going to be fine!!!!! I wish you could get in my brain and see the great treatment you will get :0) I even took my teenage daughter to be banded with Dr Aceves. She is one of the most precious things in my life and I trusted her to have the surgery with him and only him! Dr Aceves has NEVER had a fatality with the Lapband. Believe me I checked it out :0) After it is all over and you can take a deep breath you are going to be mad at how stressed you got over this. I want you to know it is normal! The unknown is scary, but many of us have been through this and we are all saying you will be in great hands! Don't let others who don't know freak you out. I heard horror stories and not one negative thing happened. I was treated like royalty in a very clean hospital by an amazing surgeon. You are in for a treat. I am so happy for you and hope to hear your story when you get home. God Bless! Banded 7/20/05 210/149/140 surgery fears Hi, I am leaving for Mexico to get banded friday morning. Guest guest
Well said Ken......I too was a BIG chicken but everything you said is true. Even with the language barrier at times, the smiles were so reassuring. , you will feel so proud of yourself, so go for it. I wish there was something I could do for the staff that could even half way reward them for the experience they gave to me. Guest guest
, ditto to everything Ken said. I'm a risk manager in a US hospital and I WOULD NOT get this done in the US. I used to work at the second largest private medical center in California. It is close to here and they have a large (no pun intended) bariatric program with fine surgeons (who will be doing my fills). But I could not bring myself to do it. Cost aside, I'm terrified to be in the hospital. I, too, was so amazingly relaxed when I was there. My mother said she hasn't seen me so mellow in a long time (my other addiction (besides food) is work). It was a fantasy experience. I went to the hospital for an operation, and I had so much fun! There's a darling nurse who cared for me who speaks a little English and I speak a little Spanish and we had a ball. We laughed so much. I slept like I haven't been able to sleep in 20 years! That was long-winded for a "ditto". Ha. Phyllis Re: surgery fears Hello : I had the same thoughts. I was banded last friday (06/09). I can tell you a million times not to worry, but you will!
