Guest guest
The gal that cuts my hair used to give her daughters garlic growing up. She would cut it very small (crush it maybe) and then put in on a spoon and have them swallow it with water so they wouldn't have the taste/buring you get with it. Do you suppose being crushed, that would work instead of chewing? Just curious. Chewing does mix in digestive juices in the mouth, and it also provides more of a surface for digestive juices to work on in the stomach. However, if crushed garlic is minced or put through a garlic press it would help part of that process. Bee
Guest guest
I did some research recently digestion has little to do with absorbtion of allicin. Anything that mixes the parts together creates allicin. Cutting does it to some extent but crushing is better, and of course chewing even better than that. I'm not sure how action of digestive juices helps the process along. It would slowly break it down and release it but that might be a hinderance too as they'd then have less chance to interact. Another (possibly better) way to get garlic into the system is crushing it and rubbing it on the feet. The large and numerous pores make sure it's absorbed quickly, even faster than ingestion according to some sources. Apparently it's detectable on the breath within 10 minutes of a garlic foot massage. This is a very old and common treatment for various things that go wrong with babies. Given the low cost it's also easy to blend up a few bulbs and put them in bath water. I've done this and noticed some tingling/burning on areas of skin that I've noticed a problem with candida, or whatever organism I'm fighting. Theres also some information saying it crosses the blood brain barrier and it's toxic to the brain, but more information saying this is untrue. I love garlic in case you couldn't tell! Guest guest
Yes Lynn, you need to either cut it up or better yet chew it and swallow it... good girl!!!Pearlmoon <pearlmoon@...> wrote: I am taking 1 clove of raw garlic everyday now. The only way I can tollerate taking it is to cut it into a salad and eat it with the greens. I will usually end up chewing it, but is this a good enough way to get the garlic I need each day? I could always increase it to 2 salads a day and get 2 cloves a day too. I just wanted to know if it is alright to cut the garlic and chew it. Will I get the same results as if I swallowed it cut in two pieces? Thanks. Lynn Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze. Guest guest
YAY!!! I'm doing something right. Thanks Suzie. You know it's really not bad this way. I don't even taste the garlic that much. I pour ACV over the salad with a small amount of olive oil and that's the way I get my ACV each day. I drink the left over from the bottom of the bowl. A bit strong but not bad. So I figure I kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, From my experience (what there is of it), the best results come from when the garlic is masticated, or chewed. It releases the oils which contain the benifits. My wife Marilyn takes it in slices. I cut up a couple of cloves every morning, and she takes them like one would take pills, just swallows them with water. Our son takes his a little differently. He cannot swallow them that way, and WILL NOT chew them. So I cut them into very small pieces and capsule them. He has to take them right away, or the moisture of the garlic will break down the capsules. When I was in prison, and had no access to decent medical care, we would smuggle garlic cloves from the kitchen and dice them up and take them, just to keep our immune system up. Any way you can take it is better than not taking it at all. Guest guest
Yeah, I like the flavor of garlic in the salad. I don't get the full effect of the strong taste or the burning when I use it this way. I get a lot of the other flavors of the greens to mix with it. When I took it before by itself it would burn and it would upset my stomach and more often than not I would bring it right back up again. In a salad is much more tastey and I have it with a nice cup of ginger tea. Problems solved. Yay!
