Hi Charlyne,

Hi, how are things going today? I think taking Zeb to see the child

psychiatrist is a good idea even though as you say you can't get much out of

him. We always have to take Brook to the child psychopharmacology clinic

even though he doesn't really participate. The Dr. evaluates how he is doing

in part by observing his behavior at the appointment. For Brook, this is

telling since he is much calmer and cooperative than he used to be a year ago

before the Risperdal. The rest of the appointment is me and my dh discussing

his behavior, development, our concerns, school issues, etc. But, Brook's

presence is mandatory for these appointments. Of course, this is the Dr. that

is prescribing Risperdal, so she needs to follow up with him. They also try

to get a height and weight whenever possible, to keep tabs on the side

effects, like weight gain or loss.

Wow - there's a lot to print out there! Dana's enzymes site would

probably be a good place to start, BUT...

If you want an all inclusive package at what he's looking for and

then some, I would just hand him a copy of the book: Biological

Treatments for Autism and PDD, written by Shaw Ph.D., with

contributions from Rimland, Semon, , Seroussi, and .

There's a new revised 2002 edition and it covers the why's, the

how's, the examples of cases, the studies, etc. It covers the GFCF

diet, yeast, bile salts, heavy metals toxicity testing, supplements,

and so on. I think it's fantastic and just what a doctor would be

more prone to wanting to see. I would also go to the www.gfcfdiet.com

site and there will be plenty to print out there. I would print out

the explanation of the diet and why it's done and I would also print

out some of the success stories that are bound to make an impact in

understanding of just how much chaos one gluten filled cookie can

cause for 3 days post-infraction! lol!

Good luck!

Does anyone know of a good child psychiatrist in the Lubbock area? Ours refuses

to accept our insurance anylonger. We've had to pay for each of the monthly

visits out of our pocket and with meds and everything else, we just can't afford

him anymore. My daughter does well with him since she has seen him for the past

3 years but on our salary, it's impossible. We used to only pay a co-pay but our

fee more than tripled since this summer. If anyone out there knows of a good

one who has good experience with autistic kids, let us know so I can see if they

are on our network.

Thanks,

C. , Georgi's mom

Corina,

A friend uses Turnbow and is very happy with him. Dulaney

at ESC-17 might be able to give you some more options. Her number is

792-4000.

with? I would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks,

Ilya sees Holly Berchin at Children's, & she is pretty good.

However, I used to work children's services in Stark County & worked

with Dr. DeLong on several occasions. She is absolutely wonderful!

On the opposite note, Ilya went to Dr. Lee Reynolds (Canton) for a

while. I liked the way he related to Ilya, but he was terrible to

get a hold of & all but refused to forward her records when we

switched to Children's.

We take to WIllougby (SP) to see Dr. McGee. We have been very happy with her. She has listened to us and helped us understand many issues. She has also wrote letters to the school to address areas of the IEP that we knew the school would fight about.
