Guest guest
Hi everyone, Just to let you know Zach's surgery was cancelled due to a small but lingering cough. The anesthesiologist called at 9pm last night and as soon as he heard Zach had had a cough within the last two weeks he said he didn't think it was worth the risk. We are very disappointed but realize this is the best thing in terms of safety. I am just frustrated because we had his pediatrician give us the OK last week when the cough was slightly worse and we went to the pre op at the ear doctors yesterday and they didn't think it sounded bad enough to cancel the operation. I feel like the anesthesiologist needs to communicate a bit better with his team about what he will accept before operating. Just a recommendation that if anyone has a child who has been sick (especially a cough) before a surgery chances are good that it will be cancelled. Apparently you will have an increased risk of developing pneumonia due to damage to the lungs during the surgery, as well as complications during surgery as well. I will find out tomorrow when it will be rescheduled. Thanks for being there. Jane Blanchard wrote: Hi Vickie, Thanks for the forgivness - I won't tell your friends! My understanding is that a CWD is like having an open window where they can get into your ear and muck about. You also have to be careful about getting water in there. So I would say you don't have to worry about pressure changes. Happy riding!
