Guest guest
I'm not sure about Canada. The US, requires a hearing test. If the hearing test isn't passed then it is likely the army won't accept you. Some waivers can be acquired for certain medical problems, but not usually for hearing loss. I think it really depends on your particular condition. If you've had c'toma in the past, but minimal hearing loss, you'll probably do fine. >From: " J-F dubois " <beeffisccloud@...> >Reply-cholesteatoma >cholesteatoma >Subject: joining the army >Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 06:22:19 -0000 > >Hi everyone..I have a question if anyone can help I have had ear >infection for the past 12 years and 3 times were with cholesteatoma >now I am 22 years old and wanted to join the army for the past 6 years >and trained for it now I am ready for it but I am afraid that my doctor >wont let me because of my infection..I dont have a cholesteatoma >anymore..can my doctor make me not go I can use all the help I can thx >I live in canada > > > > > >
Guest guest
In 1979 I got into the Marine Corps with my c-toma problems. Got a letter from my Doc so that the Recruiter could get a waiver from HQMC for me to get in. At that time I had 2 removal attempts and was dorment with C-toma, my Doc was hoping that they would take me as the Navy Doc's where good at reconstructions. While I was going to my Military school after boot camp my c-toma came back and ended up having a cwd about 4 months after that. In all said I was kind of suprised that I did get in the 1st place and that they let me stay in after my cwd. I was given the option to get out after my cwd but choose to stay in. I got my reconstruction just prior to getting out...... tom hansen --- J-F dubois <beeffisccloud@...> wrote: > Hi everyone..I have a question if anyone can help I > have had ear > infection for the past 12 years and 3 times were > with cholesteatoma > now I am 22 years old and wanted to join the army > for the past 6 years > and trained for it now I am ready for it but I am > afraid that my doctor > wont let me because of my infection..I dont have a > cholesteatoma > anymore..can my doctor make me not go I can use all > the help I can thx > I live in canada > > > > > > > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi The British military at least do not like hearing-impaired employees and the logic behind that is clear: what if someone with hearing impairment misheard an order to shoot/run/jump/tell someone a password, etc? All hypothetical, but possible. I was effectively 'sacked' by the RAF because of my hearing loss, but to be totally honest I understand it, I agree with it. I'm okay these days - I have been able to get my ears sorted (well, okay, I'm deaf but I have a BAHA... and my ears don't drain anymore, so things aren't toooooooo bad) and I now have a good job too - I'm happy enough :-) Kazzy :-)))) joining the army >>Date: Fri, 17 Mar 2006 06:22:19 -0000 >> >>Hi everyone..I have a question if anyone can help I have had ear >>infection for the past 12 years and 3 times were with cholesteatoma >>now I am 22 years old and wanted to join the army for the past 6 years >>and trained for it now I am ready for it but I am afraid that my doctor >>wont let me because of my infection..I dont have a cholesteatoma >>anymore..can my doctor make me not go I can use all the help I can thx >>I live in canada >> >> >> >> >> >> > > > > >
