Guest guest
I was a member of this group 3 years ago. Suni, until I read your message describing the cluncking and then the " subluxation " of your hip, I didn't know how to relate what my hip/leg what was doing! I " googled " subluxtion and for the past 3 years that is exactly what my right hip has been doing!!! I had had my right hip replaced(metal/metal). I, like Suni, have had clucking & the subluxation of the right hip. Although, unlike Suni, visits to many OS were frustrating as they mostly refused to even touch my hip & my original OS won't even see me any more!! I just had my left hip replaced on 12/21/09. Just 2 days before my 6 week ck up, I had just put my socks & slippers on, was getting ready to get up from the chair, doing everything by the book, and dislocated the new hip. Luckily my husband and 17y/o dd were home, and ambulance was called, and the hip was popped back in under anethesia. I am now in a brace for 6 weeks. SO AFRAID TO MOVE, DEBI IN N. It clunks and " sub-luxes " very often and I can only walk 1 or 2 blocks before the pain in the groin and on the side of the hip is too much. It feels " unstable " inside. > > > > > > one explanation is that my ligaments are too loose around the THR and do not keep the ball tight to the cup. > > > > > > and yes the leg got shorter after surgery meaning that there might be too much " slack " for the ligaments and also I have always had flexible ligaments. > > > > > > 2- now the results of metal on metal (for THR as well as resurfacing) are coming out with the problem of metal sensitivity and resulting tumors in adjacent tissues. > > > the level of metal (cobalt and chromium) ions count in my blood is extremely high. > > > > > > SO my OS is recommending to re do the surgery for replacing the cup with a plastic lined one, replacing the head with a slightly longer neck. If joint still unstable after that (during the surgery) he will also remove the stem and replace it with a longer one... > > > > > > All this is a bit scary and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or information on this subject? > > > thanks > > > suni > > > > > >
