Hi Dot,

Eighteen weeks is a long time to be out of work and then be hit with a three man job. I can't imagine jumping into that right away, full time. I do know what you mean about staying employed for the insurance sake as I know I'd never be able to afford these expensive medications if I didn't have it.

I've not been up to par these last few days and I'm wondering if it's just the time of year or what? I've never thought that the weather had anything to do with my pain and misery but maybe it does. Guess I'll try to head back home to California a little earlier than I was planning.

I hope your second day goes smoothly for you......can you go somewhere on your lunch break and rest alone? Sometimes I just have to go to the couch and put my feet up for a bit to keep going. Maybe you could take a little snooze in your car and take an alarm clock with you?????? :o)

xxoo,

Mi. Carmen

Hi Dot,

Here's hoping today finds you feeling less stressful! My daughter has

worked for what used to be Hill Shire Farms in Wisconsin, but was

taken over by Sara Lee, and soon after Sara Lee took over they began

the "downsizing." She works in the office and it is mandatory for her to

work 9 hours a day, 5 days a week and now trying to do the job of two

people. She told me Monday evening that she is actually *hating* her

job, which she used to enjoy. The stress is so overwhelming! She is

divorced and has a 7 year old daughter, and as jobs paying what she

gets are scarcer than hens teeth...she has no choice. So, I can only

imagine how you feel...and Darla is healthy yet she feels extremely

exhausted by the end of the day.

My heart and thoughts are with you friend.

fro Wisconsin,

Tricia

-- First Day back to work

Hi you guys!!

I hope this email finds you all pain free tonight!! Well to begin... I am so upset and stressed out! Today was my first day back to work after being out for 18 weeks... I was appointed a three man job and am now doing it all by myself!! There were a lot of changes that took place while i was out... My supervisor just left for two weeks to Europe and came in this morning to update me on all the changes and then left!! I feel so overwhelmed and stressed out.. I can feel myself getting sick.. I am trying my hardest to not think so much about it.. But the thought of having to wake up and get beat up again tomorow makes my body hurt! Our whole company is down sizing and it doesn't look good... I guess i should be happy that i have a job and medical coverage...

But I just can't help it that I stress about these types of situations....

Sorry, if i don't make sense I just wanted to tell you guys what a terrible day I had!

Thanks for listening to me..

Feeling Drained!

Dot :(

Yes I pain in my lower back and hip. I had my knee replacement in January. Still have the pain but not nearly as much. I'm being brave and having the other knee done on the 24 th. I had so many problems the first few weeks that I hope that this will be better. Shirleykendrick1086@... wrote: Hello everyone, I went back to work today.....it is a good thing I work part-time. Hey Kim,

Congrats on going back! It was hard on me too the first week. My OS

wanted me to go only 4 hours but my boss said 8 or nothing remember?

Good thing my first day back was on a Wednesday so I only worked 3

days and then had the weekend to recover!! So this is my second full

week and it's getting easier.

But I'm still sore as anything. And yes, my knee is still bugging me

at night, especially when I've been up on it too much. I told my

husband last night I guess I was getting to cocky and thinking I

could do too much without my cane cause my ankle was swollen up again

last night when I got home. So I now see for me that is a sign I'm

up and about on it too much. Are you using a cane at work? Are you

icing it or taking anything like Tylenol or Aleve?

All I can say is to watch and listen to what your body will tell

you. Like how my ankle is " talking " to me now. Lets me know I need

to back off a bit. My hardest part right now is working all day and

getting home at 7:15 and still doing my PT...I'm too damn tired. I

try to do a little something at work, I walk around ALOT..but I know

I need to do more at home. It's just really hard for me to get into

it right now.

Good luck.

Shirley, My mom had her first knee done in 1999. Had alot of pain afterwards and even had to go in and have scar tissue removed. It helped but still had pain. At that time she needed the other knee done but she wouldn't because of the pain in the new knee. Anyway this year there was no choice but to do it so she had it done May 30. She is doing very well and she says that the pain in the knee done in 1999 is so much less now that she isn't favoring the other knee. I have a lot of soreness in my lower back after a THR. But I think it is because I dont walk straight up and down. I am protecting that new hip and that seems to cause a lot of tension in my back. It is getting better for me though. Especially since I started doing some really good stretches that work on the muscles in my thigh and pelvis.

Kim,

on lower back pain -- I had a TKR July 3rd and my Ortho had to take

me off the CPM machine after less than a week because it was

aggreviating my SI joint, which has arthritis in it. I've been icing

my SI joint since and it's taken about another week to get to where

it's not yelling at me. If you can take anti-inflammatories, that

might help.

Also, on the nightly knee pain. I was having that a lot. I found a

couple of things really help. First, every time I do any therapy or

walk around a lot, I have to ice the knee, front and back, for about

20 minutes. The other thing that helps is a foam wedge that keeps

the knee elevated while I'm lying in bed. Evevation reduces swelling

which is what was causing most of my extra pain.

Another thing. Since the pain meds I was on dried me out, I was

drinking a lot of water. I got to the point that I had a shortage of

potassium (confirmed by blood test). Be sure that you're getting the

right electrolites, calcium, etc. If not, your leg can start

cramping. And believe me, it's not fun to have cramps in a muscle

right next to a new TKR.
