The use of vitamins as a comprehensive therapy threatens the pharmaceutical

industry's trillion-dollar " business with disease. " To protect this global

drug market, the pharmaceutical companies have formed a worldwide cartel to

ban all statements related to therapies involving vitamins and essential

nutrients.

This ban would effectively outlaw all vitamins.

In 1994, the United States guaranteed access to all vitamins and information

pertaining to health with the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act

(DSHEA). Reacting to this law, the pharmaceutical cartel regrouped at the

international level and sought legislation using the power of the United

Nation's Codex Alimentarius (Food Standard) Commission.

Since 1996, the pharmaceutical cartel has attempted to outlaw vitamin

therapies for all member countries of the United Nations - that is

worldwide.

Over the past five years, our efforts have been focused in Europe because

the German pharmaceutical companies (Bayer, BASF, Hoechst/Aventis) and the

German government lead the effort to control all nutritional supplements. In

1996, 1998, and 2000, with the help of European vitamin consumers, we

succeeded in freezing the plans of these unscrupulous special interest

groups.

Another attempt to outlaw vitamin therapies will occur at the next Codex

Alimentarius meeting in Berlin, Germany, on November 26-30, 2001.

Should these plans succeed, the U.S. will undoubtedly be forced to regulate

supplements and eliminate any " competition " from the independent health food

stores and the natural health industry. Therefore, defeating the " Codex " is

a precondition for the long-term survival of your store.

Unfortunately, some health food industry representatives have publicly

stated that the " Codex " decisions would have little or no impact in the U.S.

because DSHEA and other laws would prevent their implementation. Having

opposed the interests of the Codex Alimentarius in Europe for half a decade,

I can only warn you that the pharmaceutical industry fears no law of the

The letter implies that " Codex " would be a catastrophe for vitamin consumers

worldwide.

Currently " Codex " threatens American consumers. Every year, shortly before

the " Codex " conference occurs, the people of the world are bombarded by

negative publicity about the alleged side effects of vitamins. In 1998, the

mass media smeared news everywhere that vitamin C causes genetic mutations

and premature death. Before the 2000 " Codex " conference, world opinion was

manipulated again with the news that vitamin C would cause heart attacks.

Exactly the opposite is true!

Now, a few months before the decisive " Codex " meeting in November 2001, we

again witness a flood of propaganda stating that vitamin C causes cancer.

This is no coincidence.

These falsehoods are a deliberate, strategic public relations effort on

behalf of the pharmaceutical industry to discredit effective and natural

therapies. The tactics are consistent and unscrupulous. You can set your

watch: before the meeting of the " Codex " Commission, the public sees a

demonic portrait of vitamins and nutritional supplements. The tainted

rhetoric is played again and again for those undecided " Codex " delegates.

In light of these facts, any health food industry representative who

downplays or negates the threat of " Codex " is a menace to your store.

Education Alliance " (DSEA), it has hired an international public relations

firm that also serves the pharmaceutical interests in promoting legislation
