Guest guest
Hi Shirley, THis is true the PSA only signifies an enlarged prostate, it dose not signify cancer. Guest guest
That's right, and its the reason they want to go in through the colon wall and puncture the lump in a number of places so they can get samples to see if its cancer. Problem is, if the biopsy is positive they must begin to poison, burn or cut you immediately, because they have released cancer cells into your colon and blood stream. I have read that the pregnancy test can signal cancer in a male. I just haven't had the nerve at 78 to buy a pregnancy test kit. Maybe I should strut up to the counter and ask for one in a loud voice. Guest guest
Well Jeeez Dick, they would only think you did a job on some young chick......<grin> I agree with you completely, I will not do a biopsy for the very reason you point out. But with a PSA of 4.2 at age 75.....I just can't get too alarmed. Guest guest
Yes, but the answer will be, " we had to remove the colon to avoid a potential blockage. " Well give us the option PRIOR to surgery instead of when your in there! I haven't heard of anyone having a blockage in my 45 years from a tumor! If it were me I would say leave it alone and we will deal with it if it happens. My dad had no choice, they went in for a simple resection (estimated at most an hour) of a polyp and it turned into a 9 hour surgery and a colostomy etc. NO choice. That was their excuse, bowel obstruction that may occur. Man he hated that colostomy. It was permanent too of course. They really botched up what was going on, from one little polyp to metasatic cancer in his lymphs, lungs, liver and kidney. They wanted to put a pump of chemo right on his liver and he would walk around with them for 6 months shooting the junk into him. Well, we found a better way! > > That's right, and its the reason they want to go in through the colon wall and puncture the lump in a number of places so they can get samples to see if its cancer. Guest guest
Sure, Dick. You can say pregnancy test, and even condoms out loud in a drugstore these days. The only thing you have to be quiet about is cigarettes. It's exactly the opposite of the way it was in the 50's. bG >> > I have read that the pregnancy test can signal cancer in a male. Guest guest
Dick, I'm concerned. The odds of recovery should be evaluated. My dad had his prostate removed while they were working down there on something else, just to get rid of the nuisance, it was not even infected or troubled. He opted to have it removed. Your doc should tell you the odds and so forth so you can make decisions. If it were me (and it isn't, and I'm not your doc), I would think it over hard. To me the probable value of the device would be preventing metastasis. Cells roaming the body via the blood and reproducing in other places spreading the cancer. It may be possible that the current will reduce or kill that off. But...for a tumor? It would seem to need a very direct application to the area to provide enough current to kill a whole colony of millions of cells that are not out there in the blood exposed to current. So, maybe having it out and then treating the blood would make sense to me if it were me. But I really don't know, just trying to make a helpful guess or two about it. bG > > That's right, and its the reason they want to go in through the colon wall and puncture the lump in a number of places so they can get samples to see if its cancer. Guest guest
I understand the test is only useful for men who have breast cancer CB
