Guest guest
Hi everyone, Just wondering what kind of muscle relaxants some of you have found of use. I started taking a little bit of xanax (1/4 to 1/2 mg) at night to relax the neck spasms so I could sleep and now I'm super worried that I'll never get off of the stuff. I've heard that people can get seizures from taking just a little for a long time. I'm going to see my pain doctor in 2 weeks, so maybe you guys can give me some ideas about replacing the Xanax with something else. Preferable something that doesn't give such a dry mouth at night. My husband has been given Zanaflex or Flexeril as muscle relaxants. They also have a tendency to make you drowsy, and some can cause dry mouth. Our dentist said to get a Water Pik, since we both take pain meds. and having dry mouth doesn't give you enough saliva to wash out the bacteria which can cause cavities and gum disease. Ask your pain dr. for a muscle relaxant that causes the least amount of dry mouth. Anti-depressants can be like that also. They tried to take it away, and even giving it a few weeks to get out of my system No Sleep. So it's back. I also do take Baclofen 20mg at Bed or as needed for muscle relaxer. If on top of pain I'm totally obsessing, then Serax takern only very conditionally does the trick. Dave
Guest guest
Hi Thanks for the reply. I looked up the Flexeril and Zanaflex. I'll ask my doctor about one of those. Mainly I want to get off of the Xanax. I'm one of those who take it every night. Can't seem to do without it, which for me is scary. I was using it as a muscle relaxant, because I can feel it melt away the spasms as I lay there in bed. I think I will be much safer taking something designed to be a muscle relaxant rather than the xanax with its potential for addiction. Guest guest
Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. Baclofen is another muscle relaxer I'll ask my doctor about. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Thank you for the list of muscle relaxers. I wish I didn't need anything, but there has to be some way for me to get to sleep. Glad to hear that your muscle spasms are a lot better after your surgery. Do you know the reason for that? Is it because the surgery removed the cause of the inflamation or something like that? Guest guest
Many thanks for your info. Warm regards, (from Ontario) Cyn Hatmaker <cyn_hatmaker@...> wrote: I'm on Flexeril for muscle spasms and Ultram for pain. Guest guest
Cyn, I know exactly what you're talking about with docs & their preconceived ideas about age. I was too young for shingles in my 20s & my stroke at 35 in addition to many other conditions some of them wouldn't consider or test for because I wasn't the appropriate age. Finally, in each instance after the condition continued, they'd test & say 'this really shouldn't be happening at your age' or 'I've never seen this in a patient your age.' I realize certain conditions present at certain ages, but there are thousands of cases where the age & condition did not correlate with the norm. It really gets old for the patient. You're living in the body; you know what your symptoms are. ~Moonbeam ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
