Guest guest
Hi , I'm sorry as I have been gone for a while, and I don't know where you are hurt, but to merely answer your question. I had two cort. injections over a 2 month period and they helped sooooo much that was in 3/2005. and have not had to go back THANK GOD!!!! Previous to that I was on the Emergency room floor crawling on my hands and knees because I could not stand, my sciatica was HORRIBLE and they had me on what seemed like every type of drug they had to somewhat " ease " the pain .. which it didn't, it just knocked me out! I was thankful though as it had been 4 days with no sleep because of the pain!!!!! After the Lord- I thank those injections! I have to still becareful and I know it is only a temp fix as I have been told once you herniated a disk, you will not be able to heal it and most likely you will herniated more (yes, it's really depressing isn't it?) but I have to do what will work for me to keep, keeping on. I have 3 children one with special needs and they need Mom on the go. So, now I just try to be very careful in my actions and have had to learn to " ask " for help in picking things up and learn NOT to pick things up, lol. I'd say talk to your doctor and tell him/her what you are feeling, it took me about 7-10 days to feel " moveable " for lack of a better word ;0) Praise God ... my range of motion is so much better now than a year ago! Still not where I would wish it would be ... but hey ... I am thankful! Just my $0.02, hope it helped in some small way. Peace, Love, and Joy lumped in with Smiles from our family to yours, Marisol. Steroid Injections For Sciatica I had a cortizone injection on Friday for sciatic pain. I am somewhat disappointed in the results so far. While the pain has improved a bit, it is far from gone. I'm still having to take pain meds and muscle relaxers. Those of you who have had this procedure, did it really help you a lot or was it merely a bandaid until you could get something else done on a more permanent basis? in NC
Guest guest
-Hi I never had them for my back but I did have them for neck pain and I got very little relief from the shots. SO I never tried on my back. I do know several people who did some got some relief others got none so I guess it just depends on the person. I will say most people I have talked too say go thru a few and if you get no relief you probably won't with more. I hate to say it but to me they are a band aid approach like most things that I went thru only surgery has finally given me any relief at all with my neck and sciatic pain. Still just about 7 weeks postop from my back surgery but doing pretty well. Still in some pain in my back and leg but I expect that for awhile. Didnt't take a couple months to get here so I didn't expect 100% superfast. Still glad not to have that nerve screaming bloody murder all day and nite like it was a few months ago. Hope the next shot helps you more. Best wishes. Sharon Group Owner - In neck pain , " " <ccraven@...> wrote: > > I had a cortizone injection on Friday for sciatic pain. Guest guest
my first pm doc was a firm believer in the shot and tried unsuccessfully in several locations to find the " right " spot for my pain. all they did was cause more pain. i had one shot work for about ten days and they wewre the greatest days ever, but it never happened again. my new pm doc says that that oibviously doesnt work for me and tried adding a longer acting pain med to go with my regular ones. the surgery i had for the sciatic pain worked great. discotomy/lamenectamy (?) that was the only surgery that did work. good luck, but if youve already had a few i would ask him to try something else. rob <html><div>No greater burden can be borne by an individual than to know no one cares or understands. </div></html> >From: " " <ccraven@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Steroid Injections For Sciatica >Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2006 01:19:37 -0000 > >I had a cortizone injection on Friday for sciatic pain. Guest guest
Thanks Rob for the info. I am scheduled to see the surgeon on August 7th to discuss options. I think the sciatica is worse now than before. Maybe because the injection irritated the nerve even more than it was. I'm ready to have something done to stop the pain. in NC > > my first pm doc was a firm believer in the shot and tried unsuccessfully in > several locations to find the " right " spot for my pain. all they did was > cause more pain. i had one shot work for about ten days and they wewre the > greatest days ever, but it never happened again. my new pm doc says that > that oibviously doesnt work for me and tried adding a longer acting pain med > to go with my regular ones. the surgery i had for the sciatic pain worked > great. discotomy/lamenectamy (?) that was the only surgery that did work. > good luck, but if youve already had a few i would ask him to try something > else. > > rob

Guest guest
if they are offering a lamenectomey or discotemy partial or otherwise i think it would help; i would avoid fusion surgery until there is no other option. but my sciatic pain is gone and has never returned and that surgery was just about two years ago. good luck and take care cindy rob <html><div>No greater burden can be borne by an individual than to know no one cares or understands. </div></html> >From: " " <ccraven@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Re: Steroid Injections For Sciatica >Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2006 02:21:47 -0000 > >Thanks Rob for the info. Guest guest
Thank you for the advice Rob. I have a question though about fusion. I have had several bouts of dibilitating pain. When it happens, it " feels " like something slips out of place. My doctor told me it was arthritis but it feels like something slips. The pain is horrible and it is too painful to do much of anything except rest. I've always thought these episodes were brought on because the disks are unstable. Wouldn't fusion help in preventing these episodes? Or if they are really caused by arthritis, is there anything that could help prevent these flare ups? As painful as these flares are, I would like to know I have done all I can to prevent a recurrence. All it takes is a sneeze or cough and I'm on the floor. in NC > > if they are offering a lamenectomey or discotemy partial or otherwise i > think it would help; i would avoid fusion surgery until there is no other > option. but my sciatic pain is gone and has never returned and that surgery > was just about two years ago. good luck and take care cindy > > rob >
Guest guest
sorry ive been off for awhile. i can't answer those questions. i just know that my fusion did not help me. they did a big chunk s1-l3 and yeah the fusion is healing fine and they say my back is stronger there, but it will eventually be too much for the vertebrae above it; and since it didnt help my pain..... the surgeon wanted to cut i shouldnt be surprised-i should have gotten more opinions though. i guess that is the most important thing to try and get more opinions; they just dont know why im still in pain and since the surgery everything feels a little worse so i blame the fusion, when it might be something else. its just a big surgery and i dont think i totally knew what was going to happen and how it would affect me and my future. so take that decision slowly i guess. i know what you mean about coughing and sneezing cuz that hurts like heck now. good luck and my prayers are with you, and your doctors to make the right decision. take care rob <html><div>No greater burden can be borne by an individual than to know no one cares or understands. </div></html> >From: " " <ccraven@...> >Reply-neck pain >neck pain >Subject: Re: Steroid Injections For Sciatica >Date: Tue, 18 Jul 2006 00:55:58 -0000 > >Thank you for the advice Rob.
