Guest guest
I would guess that because it takes the first doses 6-8 weeks to work, and the next ones so on, that the last one you took would similarly work for or not until the last 6-8 weeks. Just a logical (or illogical?) idea! Would be interested to know also. Take care, Kate:)
Guest guest
Tricia, I wish I could help you with that. I wonder if it takes just as long to get out of your system as it takes to get into your system? Wish I could have been more help. Marilyn mhogg69@... " question about Methotrexate " Could anyone tell me how long it takes MTX to leave the system?? I have been on it since September of 1999, did not take it Monday. I am wondering how long it could possibly be before I know that it is out of my system. Anyone know??? Am experimenting again. your Stills friend, tricia ) wega2@... Guest guest
Tricia, All I know is the DR told me I shouldn't get pregnant until I've been off of MTX for at least 6 months. I'm assuming this means it's not out of the system until this time. Have a good day! Guest guest
Trish, when I took mtx I stopped it twice because I was doing so good and each time I could go about 4-6 months before the arthritis started getting bad again and I would have to go back on it. I dont know though if it stays in your system that long, I dont think it does. For pregnancy they used to say be off of it 6 months or more, now they say you are okay after one month because mtx works on rapidly dividing cells and one cycle is all you need, so most comprimise and say 3 months for pregnancy now. For men though they need to be off minimum of 3 months and prefer 6 months as the sperm can live for 3 months after being made.
Guest guest
Hi Tricia My rheumy had me stop MTX recently for 1 week because I complained of mouth sores. There was some improvement not much thou. So my rheumy said it isn't the MTX, because the sores would of cleared up right away after I stopped taking MTX. So it sounds like the MTX leaves your system right away. Have a Good Day !!!!!!!! rjones202@... " question about Methotrexate " Could anyone tell me how long it takes MTX to leave the system?? Guest guest
Hi everyone! My daughter was diagnosed in October with Rheumatoid Factor positive Polyarticular JIA. She has been taking Methotrexate for about 8 weeks now. Her doctor told us that it lowers the body's immune system. She had the flu shot and seemed to be healthy for a while, without any side effects from the drug. But, now she has developed infections in both big toes that won't go away even with antibiotics. And, she has a bladder infection (is on meds for that too). Furthermore, this morning she woke up with a sore ear that was also plugged. I'm thinking this is all due to her body's lower immune system. Have any other families experienced anything similar with the Methotrexate? Guest guest
Hi Karla, I am sorry to hear of your daughter being diagnosed with JIA. It's sad that our children have to deal with this. On to your question, my daughter was on methotrexate for about a year and a half. She did suffer quite a few infections while on it, but to us the benefits greatly outweighed the risks. I personally wish she was still on it, but they changed her meds around again so she is not taking it at this time. However, I do agree with some of the other moms that you should let your Rheumy know that your daughter is getting infections and let them determine if she should stop taking it until her infections clear up. My daughter had to do this many times. She would stop for a week or two until she got better than she would go back on it. She just wasn't able to heal as well while taking the methotrexate, but she did wonderful when they took her off. Well I guess thats about it. I hope your daughter gets better soon. I will kee her in my prayers. Hugs, (mom to 15, Poly JIA, asthma, chronic hives, IBS, back problems and Jayna 12, ADHD, tourette's syndrome, OCD, possibly Lupus) > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
My son was actually healthier on the mtx than off. He had only one major illness that I can recall - strep. And when he got that, he was sicker than normal. I am curious about the toe infections. Do you mean her nail is somehow infected? Or is the toe red and inflamed looking? will sometimes flare in his toes and they swell and get red, but that is the arthritis. My dh had some attacks like that which were first thought of as being gout, but his rheumy now thinks are part of his RA. I do agree with everyone - make sure the rheumy knows that she has these issues and what she is being treated with. Sometimes the mtx needs to be stopped (when my son had mono, for example, they took him off for a few weeks). Good luck and please keep us updated, Michele ( 21, spondy) ________________________________ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Siti Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2009 11:08 AM Subject: question about Methotrexate Hi everyone! Guest guest
Hello Karla, my daughter was on mtx for about ten months; she did have problems with infections in her toes as well as cellulitis every time she injected mtx and Enbrel so the dr finally had to discontinue the mtx and switch her to Arava. Mtx does lower the immune system, and my daughter has an additional immune disease that makes her unable to tolerate the mtx, but I think many more kids tolerate it than do not. I would make your daughter's rheumatologist aware of all issues; he may want to try a different medication for her if he feels it is the mtx contributing to her recent infections. I hope your daughter is feeling better soon. Please let us know how she is doing.
