A New Technique For Treating Juvenile Arthritis

http://www.medindia.net/news/view_news_main.asp?x=9111

A physician from Philadelphia has come out with a new technique for treating

the children who suffer from arthritis. The technique when used will ease

the pain and also prevents deformity.

Interventional radiologist Baskin of Children's Hospital outlined his

technique for injecting steroids into the ankle joint of juvenile arthritis

patients at the Society of Interventional Radiology's 31st Annual Scientific

Meeting, reports foodconsumer.org.

" With this image-guided technique we now have an accurate way to treat this

disease in its earliest stage, " Baskin said. " We hope to be able to

alleviate pain and to prevent irreversible deformity before the bones fuse

together. "

Baskin explained that imaging allows doctors to deliver the medicine

precisely into the affected, inflamed joint.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the new comprehensive term that replaces

the American term of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
