Guest guest
Val, Aundrea often suffers with swollen lymph nodes in her neck whenever she is having a jra flare. She describs the pain as " spikey " and not the same as a sorethroat. In the beginning of her disease I would often run her to the ped thinking she had strep. they would run tests and nothing would show up. She wouldn't have other symptoms other than her jra issues. I know 's dtr. n also had the sorethroat issues and when she explained this to me I was finally able to realize what was going on. If it is jra related then no amount of antibiotics is likely to help. (at least it didn't in our case) We just did lots of popsicles, soup, smoothies...until the flare passed. I believe that the swollen lymph nodes/sorethroats is more often associated with adult onset stills disease (systemic) but obviously it can happen in kids as well. Sure hope she gets to feeling better soon. Guest guest
In reading these posts, I have a question too. Kaylee has been hoarse over a week now. She says her throat doesn't hurt. Could this be JRA related? She hasn't had a cold or anything, just hoarse. I appreciate all replies. Thanks and Kaylee, 3 1/2 poly Re: Question regarding lymph nodes Val, Aundrea often suffers with swollen lymph nodes in her neck whenever she is having a jra flare. Guest guest
, When Aundrea has swollen lymphnodes and sore throat pain she will often whisper. She said that its more painful when she uses her voice. I don't think she is technically " hoarse " but just compensating for the pain of speaking. Hopefully you will get to the bottom of this soon! Guest guest
What medication is she on? Question regarding lymph nodes Marissa has been home from school this week with swollen lymph nodes in her neck. This is the thrid time that this has happened in as many months. She does have pain, well more tingling and strange feeling, when swallowing but different than a sore throat and in a different place, more to the front. She tests negative each time for strep and her pedi says her throat looks fine and that she must have a sinus infection. He has treated her for a sinus infection each time and each time the antibiotic didnt' work and we needs to do a second course before it got better. Another words it took about 15- 20 to get better. I am not sure if it was the antibiotics or just time since it is popping up again jsut a fee weeks later. We are experienceing the same thing this time. We are 5 days into the antibiotic with no change. She has no other symptoms that correlate to sinus infection, generally, although this time she has a slight cold but she didnt the other times. At this point her lymph nodes towrads the back are swollen too. It seems to be getting worse. And strangely enough, her eyes (she has keratitis, joints, and belly seemed to be bothering her as well. Marissa rheumotolgy diagnosis at this point is Arthropathy undefined. Could this be something to do with arthritis? I did read on one website that swollen lymph nodes in the neck could be a symptoms of JRA. Then again the ped rheum didn't think this was JRA at least the last time we saw him. Do you things this is something worse watching and mentioning to the rheum or do you think this is just a sinus infection or some another childhood virus? Any advice or information would be appreciated. Thanks, Val

Guest guest
What type of arthritis does your daughter have? With my psoriatic arthritis I get painful swollen lymph nodes in the back of my neck. My doc said this is the area where the head drains and with the psoriasis on my scalp, it doesn't do it's job properly. I have a medicine (Lidex) that tends to help. Hope this helps! Guest guest
We don't have a specific diagnosis. She ahs been diagnosed with arthritis but the type is undefine. Dr. Passo fels that it is enteropathic arthitis which is arthritis that is seen in pateitns with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. My children have Eosinophilic Enteropathy which is an inflammatory disease but not classified as an IBD and studies have not links arthritis with eosinophilic disorders. Guest guest
Val, I just met with a lady this week whose daughter was likely to be diagnosed with some type of jra and she also recently found out that her dtr has IBD. She was meeting with the rheumy for the first time today. Her daughter is 10 and just recently began to have problems with joint pain etc....I have invited her to this board and maybe the two of you could connect. Her name is .
