Guest guest
Hello. I wanted to shoot a quick response to you. My daughter has pauci JRA and is currently taking the liquid form of mtx. However, she takes it orally instead of it being injected. She takes a vitamin with folic acid to combat the negative side effects. It seems to do the trick. She had worse side effects from the Naproxen (mostly stomach stuff). Her liver count did go up when we tried to increase her dose from .3cc to .4cc which persuaded us to bring it back down to .3 again. Sophie also had PT for a while which did help her regain some range of motion in her affected joints. I'm sure others here will have much more to share in response to your post. Let us know how it goes! Guest guest
Hi, My son was diagnosed at 2 with systemic onset and at 3 he was taking 25mg MTX sub q each week. He never had any side effects with the MTX and his liver enzymes have always been normal. What this disease can do to our children is much more scarier then the drugs we treat them with. With routine lab work any serious problems can be found long before symptoms apear. You want to slam the arthritis hard and heavy to get it under control as soon as possible. Guest guest
Thank you for your response I am glad that this med has helped and no side effects. It is a relief to finally hear from real people other than doctors in books whom probably do not have children with JRA. Guest guest
Is the 20 mg a normal amount of dosage. Also, the nausea mediation is this an everyday thing. And what type of illnesses is she getting - just viruses?? Guest guest
Luckily my daughter has had no side affects of the Methotrexate. I think she has a stomach of steel!!! I hope your daughter doesn't have any problems! Madison has been on Methotrexate for over a year now. She takes the injectable form by mouth. Good Luck! Guest guest
I have been treated with Sulindac, Naprosyn, Celebrex, Vioxx, Mobic, Lodine, Prednisone, Methotrexate, Plaqunil, Baclofan, Sulfasalasine, Arava, Enbrel, and Remicade.. and two years of physical therapy. Of course I did not take all those medications at the same time.. they were in different cocktails.. currently I'm on Arava, Lodine, and Remicade. I did physical therapy for two years straight so that I could relearn to walk, when I was 16 I had a major flare that left me not only painful and stiff but fatigued but physical sick (increased heart rate, abdominal swelling, kidney problems) (they said it was almost as if I was having a systemic flare but I am not systemic) becuase of it I was in bed recovering from everything that I ended up atrophying most of my muscles so I had to work for two very hard years to get that all back... An NSAID, a DMARD, and Physical thereapy are a really great start for treatment. Its treating it aggressively but not overly aggressively. Also if that doesnt work there is another kind of medication they can move on to which is the biological response modifiers such Enbrel Remicade and Humira..
