Guest guest
I was diagnosed with CD in 2001. Found SCD 3 years later and close to year on the diet, I conceived my first child at 31! The beginning of the pregnancy I did very well remaining strict on SCD. Unfortunately, it was short lived and the cravings got the best of me. My pregnancy welcomed many illegals to which I had no reaction. This too was short lived. Fifteen days after giving birth I awoke from horrific nightmare at 2a.m. with severe cramps and diarrhea. It was paybacks… This last January I became a patient at a preventative health care clinic. They specialize in autoimmune deficiencies. One of the first few tests was a comprehensive food panel. Testing more than one hundred foods for a degree of sensitivity/allergy. They also confirmed that I have no " good bacteria " in my gut and much yeast. As for the food panel, I was surprised to learn there were a few foods I am allowed on the SCD that I had a sensitivity to and also a few illegal that I showed no reaction to. E.g. I show no sensitivity to rice or potatoes, but high allergy score for asparagus and cheese…?? To no surprise, I cannot have anything to do with gluten/wheat/flour…Has anyone had one of these tests and how much faith does anyone have in them? Do you believe they can be accurate? Symptoms: intermittent burning in center of stomach, (around belly button area), muscle twitches, eye irritations, interrupted menstrual cycles, (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome??? Believed to be found in individuals that do not process starches or sugars….ahhhh, the irony…) hair loss, skin irritations, dizziness, decreased (numby) sensation on left side of body, chronic fatigue, muscle weakness, chronic sinus issues, difficulty concentrating, depression, anxiety, GERD…and several I may have forgotten right now, but these are the symptoms I've complained of for years only to be sent to an ENT and neurologist…to no avail. Strangely, I do not have the bathroom issues I remember having early Crohns. Last colonoscopy in 2007(post baby) that showed no problems or signs of Crohns…?? Being a Mom, having a career, and managing my diet had been a challenge. I have been an absolute yo yo for the past four years. I cannot find DDCC, I have little time for food prep. My SCD ketchup does not thicken and is runny. And what about all the new various health food store products? Can I just BUY almond milk? Do I have to buy all organic fruits & veggies or can I just wash the regular ones? I have questions, but I cannot make anymore excuses for the way I feel and need to just do it!!! I do not want to die of stomach cancer because I could not get back the will power to be on a diet! So… do I follow food panel restrictions or do I stay strict SCD? I am aware that I am malnourished in the way of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. I do not drink nearly enough water, addicted to coffee, (feel I need the energy boost), SUGAR CRAVINGS!!! A final thought…my lil' guy is 4 now. His speech is that of a 2 year old. He has frequent allergy issues and the same dark circles of sickness I wear under my eyes. AJ is in an Early On program (special education) to advance him before kindergarten. Provided he is not the " broad spectrum " autistic that has been suggested to me. I will be getting him tested for gluten/wheat/dairy sensitivity. I may have passed on this evilness inside me and it is restricting his progression into a " normal " little boy… Currently taking: 5HTP 2 2x daily Calm PRT 3 2x daily AciPhex 1x daily BifoViden ID 1 1x daily LactoFlam X 1 1x daily B-12 Injection 1 ML 2x per week Xanax as needed for anxiety All thoughts/suggestions are welcome. Please! I know most of you are smarter than your physicians! Thanks for your time, Joanne
