Guest guest
Hello Mike. Congratulations on the start of your CI journey. I, too, was implanted with the Freedom on September 13th and activated on October 7th of this year. While not as elaborate and professional looking as your blog, if you would like to read about my CI journey, please pull up: http://irvscijourney.blogspot.com/. It goes way back, so give yourself some time if you want to read it all. I am 70 years old, and am very pleased to be hearing again after about 5 years of a continuous decline. Best regards. Guest guest
Hi Glad to hear from you. I was starting to get worried since we haven't heard from you in awhile. So happy that the stim is working better than you expected. As you have learned, the stim is not a cure, but a means of giving you back your quality of life. The goal is to have more good days than bad ones and that is what you are having. One the really bad ones, you can take break-through pain meds or wear pain patches, that is what I do. Exercise is very important. It's important to keep the body moving, but to not do anything that you shouldn't be doing, or that could cause further damage to one's condition. I also am taking tai chi, but standing, and water exercises. Chair exercises are a great option for people who can't stand for long periods of time or whose legs are weak. Exercise will help improve balance, mobility, atrophy and it will make you feel good. I agree that light to moderate exercise would probably benefit most people, however, everyone should check with their dr first. I would be interested in the link that you mentioned. I would appreciate it if you would pass it along. Stay well, but please stay on top of the RSD. If you do have it, the longer it goes untreated, the worse it gets. I have to admit, they'd have to shoot me now to get it away from me. It's working better than I expected or even hoped for. Having said that, I still do get my break through pain days, just not as often. It has been hard trying to take things quietly for the last 12 weeks. In that time I have managed to quit smoking!! BUT ... I've also added 6kg. Bugger! - lol I have just done a weeks course in Arthritis self help. I'm trying to get a few things going down near my home town. Mainly because our nearest course of help is either 250 or 300 km's away. Am learning how to do seated Tai Chi - used for people that are not able to either stand for long or have the inability to use their legs because of pain or the arthritis has inflicted them. It really is quite fun to do, and peaceful too. I was wondering whether or not it mayhelp a few people on here with a little excercise. If your interested let me know and I can give you a link to have a look. The verdict is still out on the RSD at the moment Sue. It's a case of we fix one spot, and another pops up at the moment. It's still early days really from the surgery, so maybe once that settles down, things may change also. I hope that everyone is going along as best as they can. All of those who have had recent surgery are healing nicely and you are taking things easy. We are in harvest mode here in Australia. One of the reasons I haven't been on much. Farming - ya gotta love the lifestyle ...... lol Cheers to All
Guest guest
Hi Glad to hear there is someone else from Australia on here, I gather you live in the country, I live in Sydney. Very glad to hear your going well with you stimulator, they are still trying to talk me into having this done. I have Tarlov cyst in my sarum and am in hell, but wondered if there is anyone on the site that has this condition and had a SCS fitted, as I can't handle the pain anymore but don't want to have another surgery that just doesn''t work. Would love to hear from anyone that can help me make a decision. Thanks Maggie > > A big hello to Everyone, > > It's been almost 12 weeks since I had my stimulator implanted to help with the back, hip, leg and sciatic pain.
