It's so hard to exercise when it's so darn HOT! Being my apartment is the top floor under a flat roof it *stays* hot, too, and even at 5am my living room is over 80 degrees. I think I did a workout video only 4 times the past 2 weeks, and the last one, I got so tired I stopped halfway through. But after I check my email (So much of it!!!) I'm determined to get a workout in before I get started on my day, even if it's only a 15 minute Sansone video. I've GOT to get this bod moving again!

I know what you mean....It has finally semi-cooled here. Still hot but at least now you don't feel like you're stuffed in a oven. Nights aren't too bad. I usually get up in the morning and check my mail before or during breakfast. Then I either do my exercise in the early morning hours or if I don't manage to get it in the morning then i wait untill around 5:00 in the afternoon or later. Here, sometimes between 10 and 4 it can get pretty stuffy.

I really envy those people who love exercise. I was always a very active kid, and when I worked full time as a nurse I never sat down except to do charting, we were always so busy, but I always hated formal exercise. I guess it comes from 9 years (K - grade 8) of having former Marine drill sargeants being our gym teachers and having us do a half hour of calesthenics in the school yard every morning before the bell, then every day at gym (Yes, in the 1950's and 60's kids had PE every day).

Hey, I had PE every day too. and I was in school in the 70's. But i was one of those kids who loved PE. Like I said though I was always the skinniest kid in school and I was always doing it all. I was the queen of dodge ball. I could stand sideways and not move and was so skinny no one could hit me. LOL

Ever try doing jumping jacks in full snowsuit and boots and then spending a few hours in an overheated classroom? Not a pretty sight - or smell! I think that's why I love 's and 's videos so much - they're so *unlike* the exercises I was forced to do as a kid that it's not so psychologically traumatic to do them. I still cross over to the other side of the street and a shiver runs down my spine when I see my former gym teacher walking down the street. He's in his 80's now and still active in community affairs, and he still looks like he did in the 1960's, so all that exercise *must* be good for *something*. :)

Goes to show you if you make exercise a part of your every day life it becomes a "lifestyle". I only hope I can stay active in my older years.

I usually do, too, but not today. I'll be spending the morning with hubby at

his eye specialist today, a trip that usually takes no less than 3 to 4

hours. If it's cool enough in here when we do manage to get back home I'll

consider tossing a video on, unless he needs me to do something until

the eye drops wear off. I swear the man is blind for about 8 hours after

getting those drops!

I'm always in awe of Jack LaLanne. The man is in his 90's and looks exactly

as he did when he had his own tv show in the 1950's!

Goodness, I hadnt thought of good ole Jack in years. After reading this I

went and looked at his web site. All of you should go take a look at his

video clips. In todays world of all this high tech exercise equipment(all

the treadmills bikes, steppers etc...) he mainly uses towels, chairs and

brooms. And goodness look at the body he has on him. I even saved a few

clips to my computer as he shows some very good and simple exercises. He

always says you can exercise even if you are confined to a chair. This man

had to be the king of exercise. I think he passed away a couple years ago

didn't he? I'm not sure on that.

He's alive and kicking at age 91 (92 on Sept 26th). Don't you see him and

his wife in the Jack Lalanne Juicer infomercials on TV?

Yeah I have. I don't know what I was thinking. I see those infomercials

every so often. I know we was watching a interview with him once and he they

was talking about foods you eat. He said if man made it then don't eat it.

:) You have to admire the man because he was years ago telling people what

to do to exercise and eat right but he was just before his own time. There

is no way I could ever go though life eating in the way he does but his

exercises are so simple that anyone could do them. They are old fashion

moving your body as you had said like we had in PE class in school. There is

no way anyone can look at his life and him and dispute that those exercises

don't work.

Thanks for the article Dacia!!

You are almost 92. What's your current fitness routine?I get up at 5 a.m. and work out for two hours. I lift weights for an hour and a half and I spend another half hour in the pool. I never miss my workout. And I hate it.

Did Jack LaLanne really just say he hates working out?Yes! But I like the results. You've got to use your mind and body every day. You've got to sacrifice. It's use it or lose it. Life is wonderful. Life is fantastic. Anything in life that's meaningful, you've got to work at it.

OK Miss is wondering if she will *ever* like exercise either now LOL - here's this guy that is almost 92 and still hates it :-/ Oh well, I guess as long as I keep the other right attitude (liking the results and knowing that anything worth having is worth working for) I'll get by....

I found the Jack Lalanne website. I watched one of his clips. I want to buy his two shows, but I just don't have the twenty something that it cost right now. I did the exercises that he showed on his clip right along with him I can tell that they work. I was disappointed when the clip ended so soon. I want the whole thing. I guess I will just have to save up for it. It looks like something that I can do. from MO.

That's what I was just going to suggest. If you can't afford the video yet, just make notes of what the routines are and do more reps/minutes of them...

Nope, no way. LOL It does me good to get though the day now without eating stuff. I sure couldnt limit myself to what he eats. I can however see me doing his exercises daily. Not that I think I would ever have his dedication but I could do those daily.

Go to http://www.jacklalanne.com/ but to see his exercise clips go to http://www.jacklalanne.com/multimed.html and look under the video clips. Those had some good exercises that would cost you absolutely nothing. No equipment to buy. I thought they would be good to put in the files section at the group but didnt know if those type files was allowed or how much space they would take.

Hey that is a good idea. Thanks for the idea you two. I will try doing that. I haven't looked at all his clips yet. I bet I could piece them together if I wrote them down and like you said do several reps of each. Again thanks! from MO. I think I will try doing the clips and putting them all together first, before I look into buying a video. I really would like a video, but really don't have the money to buy one. Maybe I will ask my mother for one for my birthday (Dec 16) or for Christmas. That would be something to look forward too. from MO. I think you will find you can easily make a good 30 minute routine. There are a few different clips there and really the exercises are simple so it should be easy to write them down and set you up something. if you set up something and find you only have 15 minutes then just do it twice.

Okie dokie, I am going to do this. I am going to set a time aside for just looking at his clips and then writing down what I need to to be able to do them in a session. 30 minutes of this looks like I can do that. from MO. And if you can't do 30 minutes...don't stress it. Do 15 minutes. If you can't do 15 minutes then do 10 minutes. Just get started somewhere and do something. I'm trying to do a little something each day. Lately I've been switching up and doing different stuff daily. I used to just do the exercise bike or treadmill but have recently decided to mix it up a bit. I've read its good to do that to keep your body"offguard and guessing". I don't know if it will work or not but figured I might as well give it a shot. I need to be do some kind of exercise daily anyway.

-Do you have a VCR? I have a bunch of VHS exercise videos that I don't do any longer. I prefer the DVDs. I'm not at home now, will be later this week and can put up a list of the videos I wouldn't mind sharing with someone else. I haven't looked at the site, but can you print off a picture of the exercise? Or can you cut & paste them into a document on your computre. You can put the pictures together as a way to remind yourself what you want to do. <6@...> wrote: Okie dokie, I am going to do this. I am going to set a time

hey Darcia, Before you mail those off to people did you know you can take those vcr tapes with a little box you can get from tiger direct for 30.00 I think. You hook it to your computer and transfer all your vcr tapes to a dvd?Just thought you might want to know in case you had a lot of them and might want to invest in transferrring them to dvd. It wouldn't be worth it if you only had 1 or 2 but if you have a bunch or home movies to put to a dvd it might be well worth it.
