Hello All ,

Bromopropane is a substance widely used in Industry . As per the following are the main things about bromo propane-

What is 1-Bromopropane?
1-Bromopropane, also known as n-propyl bromide (nPB), is a solvent (CAS 106-94-5) with several commercial applications. Use of 1-BP has increased in workplaces over the past 20 years. 1-BP is often found in products used in:
• Vapor and immersion degreasing operations for cleaning metals, plastics and electronic and optical components;
• Adhesive spray applications;
• Dry cleaning; and
• Solvent sprays used in operations like asphalt production, aircraft maintenance, and synthetic fiber manufacturing.

Case Study

Six foam cushion gluers who were exposed to 1-BP vapors from spray adhesives were seen in a medical clinic for neurotoxicity. The workers had been employed at the facility from 3 months to 3 years. All patients complained of slow onset of lower extremity pain or numbness. Five of six complained of difficulty walking, and on examination had leg spasms, loss of sensation in limbs and muscle twitching. Three patients initially had nausea and headache. Serum bromide concentrations and air samples were obtained to assess exposure. A seven-hour time-weighted average air concentration of 1-BP was found to be 108 ppm (range 92–127 ppm). Two years after exposure, the two most severely affected patients still had trouble with walking and loss of feeling in their legs and they, along with a third patient, continued to feel pain most of the time.

thanks

They absolutely can. My sister has a lot of adrenal gland and pituitary

It seems like I remember someone back a few weeks ago who asked about

wt gain post gallbladder removal? Does anyone remember the post or

anything about it? I had my gb removed 12/23/03 and have since

gained 6 lbs.

Then to make things worse, I am between PCP's and I think that I may

have an ulcer. I took my son to see his WLS surgeon and explained my

problem to him. He told me that I need to be scoped, and he really

suspected that I had an ulcer. He offered to have this done for me

but is 2.5 hrs away or I would use him for the scope. (My WLS doc is

retired now.)

So, I guess my question is twofold - 1) How many of you that had your

gb removed post op had a wt gain and 2) How many of you that ended up

with uncers had some wt gain.

Like said earlier today, the carbs just go down easier with my

tummy feeling the way it does. I know...get my a$$ up and go to a

doc.

Oh, just one more question...if you did have a wt gain with the gb

removal, did you get it back under control after some time? The same

with the ulcer...did you lose the wt once the ulcer was under

control? Ok..that was two questions...sorry!

AND CEEP !!!!!HAPPY ANNIVERSERY!!!!!!!!!!!

On the cola/water issue:

Recently, I tried an experiment. I've always noticed that if I drink

diet cokes, I don't have to go to the bathroom but about three times

a day. This started bothering me. I noticed that I retained a lot

of fluid in my ankles and fingers. A couple of weeks ago I started

drinking my 64 oz. of water a day. Now I have to go to the bathroom

very often and I no longer retain water.

I am very pleased to discover this. Since I am drinking much more

water, the result is that I drink very few diet cokes. I know this

has to be healthier.

As I said, this works for me.

I recently found an interesting Mayo Clinic article on the effects of

gastric bypass surgery, Mayo Clin Proc, July 2000, Vol 75, 673-680. It

can be found at http://www.mayo.edu/proceedings/2000/jul/7507a1.pdf You

will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to

read it. This can be downloaded free from http://www.adobe.com.

What struck me were the nutritional consequence findings, at 678.

" Another potential concern of gastric bypass is the possibility of

vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) requires

gastric acid, R-factor, and intrinsic factor for normal absorption

within the ileum. The altered anatomy of RYGB disrupts this necessary

interaction. 30 Nevertheless, with supplementation of free

cyanocobalamin, deficiencies are rare.31 Although we have no objective

data on which to base our recommendations of supplemental cyanocobalamin

(1000 mg intramuscularly monthly) other than the demonstrated decreased

absorption, 30 we believe that supplements prevent potential serious

neurologic and hematologic problems caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.

Similarly, bypass of the stomach and duodenum hinders normal absorption

of ingested iron; yet, significant iron deficiency in our experience and

that of others32 is unusual except in women with heavy menstrual losses

of iron. Oral supplementation is usually sufficient, but on occasion we

have administered intravenous iron dextran to attain satisfactory

levels. While we encourage use of calcium supplements (much of the oral

calcium is absorbed in the duodenum), we currently have little evidence

that RYGB predisposes to calcium deficiency or metabolic bone disease. "

The statement that " we currently have little evidence that RYGB

predisposes to calcium deficiency " is somewhat astounding. Equally of

interest, at least to me, was that they did not consider the possibility

of protein deficiency as being even worthy of consideration.

Hi all. I was scheduled for a breast reduction this Friday, however,

last Wednesday I woke up in excruciating pain in the left lower quadrant

of my stomach towards the hip, after seeing gyn, plastic surgeon and

gastro doc, nobody knew what it was. Gastro doc sent me for my second

CAT scan of the week which showed a " subcutaneous soft tissue density

new hemorrhage from 2 cm deep to the skin surface extending 9 cm

laterally out of the field of view " I spoke with my gastro doc and he

put me on painkillers, heating pads and rest all weekend. I spoke with

the radiologist on Friday and he said it looked like a surgical clip or

suture tore apart. When speaking with the ps on Friday morning he said

that he was " boggled " and the only thing he can think of and its so rare

that he has only seen it once and not this far out from the

abdominoplasty (I'm a year and a half out) that a suture or clip came

loose and a hematoma formed.

Spoke with him this morning and he said that he doubts very much this is

what happened, but due to the " spontaneous " bleed, he does not want to

perform the br on Friday. He did add this should correct itself and he

rescheduled my surgery for 2/11. My question is, how can three doctors

tell me that I'm bleeding internally and not know the reason and then

tell me it will correct itself? Should I be concerned that I will

" spontaneously bleed " after the br? Lab work shows that my Hemoglobin

has gone down slightly from last month from 13.8 to 12.7 now. The iron

levels are within low normal range with the exception of the TIBC with

is low at 239. Has anyone ever had this happen? I have a call out to two

of my friends who are physicians, one is another gastro doc and the

other is an ENT, but knows about everything. Way too smart for his own

good. Just waiting for their calls back. Also spoke to the nurse at my

hematologist's office. She's going to run this past him and he is going

to call me back later.

When I asked the ps if this does not correct itself would he go in and

look and he told me that it wouldn't be his area and when I asked him

whose it would be, he didn't give me any answers. He is a wonderful

surgeon and a great guy, but frankly I'm " boggled " by the " it will go

away on its own even though we don't know how this happened in the first

place " statement. I haven't sustained any trauma to the area. The only

thing I can think of is when I had the transvaginal sono done on

Tuesday.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just found out that a man I almost married is coming here on

business in two weeks and he wants to get together. I haven't seen him in 5

years,

not to mention about 200lbs ago. He doesn't know I have had the surgery.

I'm thrilled and scared to death at the same time. To the point I'm

looking in my fridge and cabnets for comfort food (thank God there aren't any

there). I'm not hungry just nervous but I don't really know why. The food thing

is making me crazy. I've done really well recently by drinking extra protein

shakes and have not been hungry but this thing has me all stirred up.

Has anyone run into an ex after surgery? Should I tell him before he

gets here? And what do I do about wanting to stuff my face?

Greetings all,

I recently switched from the Carbonyl " Perfect " Iron to Vitalady's

generic for Niferex (polysaccharide?)

Being a distal at 200cm bypassed, what should my dosage for this be?

1 capsule or probably 2? I'm 39 and although I often act menopausal,

my husband assures me I'm just nuts.

Thanks for the feedback!

lazy and already here with a post. I don't do mornings and have no

idea what I'm doing trying to function at 7am.

Went into surgery 0730 Tuesday, 7 hours, scar revisions and brachioplasty.

Walked out 1030 am Wednesday and came home. All is well and I thank you ALL

for your thoughts, prayers and support. This was the easiest one yet! No more

for me, I pray. I'll now begin to age gracefully at 48.

Thank you all again so much. I have been extremely blessed.

Hmmm.... could I just pretend I needed a revision and go to 's

for the fun and pampering???

It sounds like a good time!

I missed out on meeting VitaGuy Don on his trek across the country to

deliver auntie to Florida! He was due to come through Houston on Tuesday

night, but weather and fatigue caught up with him in Lake , La. where he

crashed (figuratively!) for the night. Unfortunately, I was tied up Wednesday

morning with an appointment and not able to meet up with him when he rolled

through Houston. DANG! I was so looking forward to meeting the other half of

the Vita Duo!

I did get a chance to talk to him a couple of times on the cellphone,

and I have to say he is a charming guy!

I am having a belt lipectomy on April 15th. I have heard that it

can be beneficial to protein laod before surgery. I assume that

this would mean protein supplements. Any advice on how soon I

should start and how much per day? I could also use some

suggestions on what kinds to try. I have never done any protein

shakes and am worried about the taste. I am a chocolate lover if

that helps any.

Thanks!
