I suffer terribly from acid reflux if I eat certain foods, primarily grains.

I do take hydrochloric acid and it helps better than anything, but now you

have me curious that maybe I should also be supplementing B12.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Skipper. I don't have acid reflux and don't take anything. I recently

had all kinds of tests done, but B12 level was not one of them. I'll bring

that up when I go for my appointment.

Mahin

Many hypothyroid patients have low B12 because their hydrochloric acid in

their stomach is low (yet this can cause acid reflux.)

Pepcid, nexxium and probably all the drugs for acid reflux are known to

interefere with B12 absorption.

Has your B12 level been tested to see if that's really the problem?

Allyn,

I had my vitamin levels checked a couple of months ago and I was

really low in B12, and that was while on sublingual B12. I had been

taking some Zantac for a couple of weeks prior that I'm sure wasn't

helping the absorption of foods I was eating, but I was surprised

because of the sublingual supplement. I think for anyone that is

hypothyroid, it would be a good idea to check on B12.

=====================================

Hi Allyn and Linn,

I have hypothyroidism, and it was eventually discovered that I also

had vitamin B12 deficiency, where in my case I have vitamin B12

injections once every 8 weeks, as I have what is known as lack of the

intrinsic factor.

Reference:-

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000569.htm

Also some years ago I was informed by a qualified Herbalist that one

needs to take all the B vitamins together to enable any one B vitamin

to be absorbed by the body, so in that sense I was advised that it was

not so good just to take say one vitamin B, on its own.

" Do buy a vitamin with all the B's in it because all the B's work

synergistically together. "

Debbie:-

If you still need a cholesterol med, there is 1 good one out there.

My huband almost died from this type drug on top of undiagnosed

fatty liver. He now takes a drug (hope I spell this right)

cholestermyne. Its a powder he mixes with juice twice a day. Its

adifferent type of drug that works and is digested in the intestines

not the liver. So the side effects you spoke of are not there.

------------------------------------

Marie:-

Many thanks for sharing the above information with me, which is much

appreciated, and I am very sorry to hear what also happened to your

husband. I am almost certain in my case that those statin drugs

were also significantly affecting both my liver and kidneys towards

the end, that is before I eventually stopped taking them.

As the doctors were not listening to me, and as I was so desperate,

I ended up going to see a Chinese herbalist, where as well as

acupuncture, I was also prescribed herbal teas, which I had to make

myself from the individual bags of prescribed loose herbs.

Don't worry about the correct spelling, as I am always having to

look up to verify a number of unusual words, especially in relation

to medical terms. The correct spelling I have discovered is

cholestyramine, and I also found the below article regarding

cholestyramine, which you might also find of interest.

If I am prescribed a new medicinal drug by my doctor, I now

automatically undertake medical research on that particular drug

before taking it, as in a nutshell I no longer have the confidence I

once had in doctors. One simple way of doing medical research is

by typing:-

Side effects of ..............

in a Google, or , search box, and comparing details provided in

appropriate weblinks in order to determine a common consistent

underlying theme in order to hopefully confirm accuracy of provided

information.

Reference:-

http://www.medicinenet.com/cholestyramine/article.htm

I have noted in my own particular case that my high cholesterol

levels have been thyroid related, or related to my hypothyroidism,

so in that sense not related to my daily dietary intake of food etc.

For example I have noted over many years that my cholesterol levels

decrease when my thyroid medication has been increased, or in other

words my cholesterol levels go up if my TSH goes up, and vice

versa. Also I have had such high readings at odd occasions over

the years, which if everything was to be believed regarding high

cholesterol levels, I should have been dead long ago. Below is an

article titled:-

Cholesterol is NOT the Cause of Heart Disease

Ron Rosedale, MD

Reference:-

http://www.goodhealth.nu/News_Articles/Cholesterol_NOT_cause_of_Heart

_disease.htm

Deciding whether, or not, to take any cholesterol medicinal drug is

obviously a matter of personal choice, but where cholesterol

medications are concerned I believe that it is yet another example

of where drug companies are creating a disease in order to

prepare/produce and sell at vast profits the corresponding drug to

treat that alleged disease.

I just tried the link, and it looks like it would work fine. It is to the site, and right now they are experiencing a slow down. Lots of my attempts to get on are not working. Try the link again later. Or just go to our group site, by clicking on one of the links below. Zoe

Zoe,

Your tinyurl link doesn't work anymore. I read your prior post explaining why old links don't work anymore, and that probably explains why this tinyurl.com link doesn't work anymore either.

wow, it's rare to find a provider who knows about Iodoral. you don't say how

much you are taking? you will feel lots better on 25mg 2X a day--are you

taking that?

I felt very tired for about six weeks in the beginning. I guess that had to

do with detox and development of iodine transport system. You have got to get

enough naturthroid, how much of that are you taking?

Gracia

Hi Venizia:

Just thought I'd let you know how the recent change to Naturethroid is coming

along. It's going to be a bit complicated, since my provider has put me on

Iodoral, which I just started this Monday. Well, I felt ok before the Iodoral,

now, I feel very hypo. Sluggish, weak, almost weepy with fatigue. I really

listened to her and she went to a conference recently where they focused on the

iodine question and their findings. I was very reluctant to try this, but, I am

because, like all of us, I want to get better and am willing to give this a

chance. I understand that in the initial phase of this iodine treatment, that

those who feel bad are simply reacting to the toxins being forced out. When I

took Norweigian kelp a few years ago, I had the exact same reaction, so, after

two weeks, I discontinued it. I learned from my provider that iodine deficiency

is also a probable cause of heart pounding episodes, which I also suffer from.

I think you might find this helpful, Women's International Pharmacy, in AZ,

will compound T3 and T4 to customize a patient's needs. You can call them at

(608) 221-7810. The pharmicist I spoke to was named Fee, at least that's the way

it sounded on my cell phone. That is the pharmacy where I am getting my

Naturethroid from. Of course, you must have a provider to prescribe the meds for

you.

I was just wondering, if Gracia might have some ideas for those who are

weakened when taking the Iodoral. My provider has been taking it for 4 years,

she is now taking 4 of them daily. She feels great and does not have mental fog,

that's for sure. My provider suggested a 1/2 cup of water with 1/4 tsp Sol Saltz

after taking the Iodoral, if the bad side effects occur, followed by an 8 oz

glass of water.

I hope this helps, Venizia.

God bless you.

Thx for that, Gracia, I'm looking into the cortef now. The dose on the tabs I

have is 12.5 mg per tab, so, I will be increasing it. My provider is taking 4 of

them, so, she's been on the 25 mg 2x day for a month or so.

At this point, I have to keep trying. I am determined to go forward and be

healthier.

Thx and I'll keep you posted.

you will have great improvement on Iodoral 25mg 2X a day. This is recommended on

the Iodoral insert.

heart pounding means you need adrenal meds cortef 5mg 4X a day.

Gracia

90mg naturethroid, yes, I'm taking 2 tabs

Yes, she is rare--I really trust her. Hard to find a provider you can trust, I

know. She wouldn't expect me to do something that she herself would not or is

not doing.

I just wish that my heart would just beat like a normal heart--this pounding is

getting ridiculous--5 years and going now

thx

One of the cheapest sources is on www.breastcancerchoices.org . They also

take the money they make in " profit " and place it into a fund so that BC

patients can get loading tests done.

If you want to buy the 50 mg tablets then you will need to go to

www.illnessisoptional.com and search by OPTIMOX as the manufacturer. They

sell both 12.5 mg and 50 mg tablets and shipping is free over $100.

so the iodoral can be split if you wanted to take

smaller doses? Is it scored? I've been seriously

thinking of starting iodoral, but I want to start out

slowly. I've been using kelp and while I feel good

taking it, I think it may be the cause of my bloody noses.

I too would use kelp if it weren't for the arsenic and heavy metals. I

haven't been able to find a kelp supplement that guarantees to be free

of toxins. Don't think it exists.

Yes the Iodoral tablets are scored so you can easily cut them.

The iodoral tablet is scored. Easy to split with a pill splitter, probably

even with a sharp knife. I started out taking half tablets.

I guess I'm going to have to stop the kelp. It sure

looks like its the cause of the nose bleeds. Stupid me

though can't waste anything, so I'll probably use it

until it runs it because I do feel better on it. I

wil probably eventually order some iodoral, but start

it at a smal dose.

Great, thanks for the info. I think I will order some

this week. I can't keep taking kelp if its causing the

nose bleeds. I feel good on the kelp, so I know I

need the extra iodine. Past patch tests showed it

too.

It sounds like the Kelp isn't a good thing for you but the iodine probably

is.
