Yes I have heard of it. Before we knew what I had, I also was taken to

emerg as I couldn't breathe and when I did, it hurt. Same thing. When I am

not on my Prednisone, I can get this back at any time. Is your voice

hoarse? I also have this, as the inflammation is also on my vocal cords.

Hi Kathy,

It may be something called Costochondritis, it is the inflammation of

the cartilage where the ribs attach to the breastbone. I have had

this and it hurts awfully just to breath and sneezing makes you

almost pass out with the pain. Nothing showed on my x-rays and it

lasted for a few months. I now know what it was and that it can be

related to inflammatory diseases. If you do a search within this

group you will find quite a few of us have had this. I am pretty

sure I got the spelling right so if you google it you will also find

a heap of info.

Hope you get some relief soon.

Hi Kathy,

I have been where you are now. I have costoditis (Spelling?? brain fog

here) which means inflammation of the rib cage/chest walls. And this

can be SO painful. I ahve been rushed to ER with the EMT thinking it

was a silent heart attack. The only thing I have taken that I found

that works is the Methotrexate along with 5 mg prednisone. I hope

along with your Dr. you may find the right mix of drugs to help.

[Editor's Note: Hi . I agree that it sounds like the other Kathy has

costochondritis and you are 100% correct that this is a painful inflammation of

the rib cage/chest wall. It is an all too common form of PA. Kathy F.]

Kathy, as others have said it is part of PA for some. Luckily, I don't

have pain - just the feeling that I'm not drawing as deep a breath as I

used to. If I understand correctly, the ribs don't expand as they once

did due to the inflammation in the connective tissue.

I have costrochondritis. Thankfully, it doesn't hit me to often any more, now

that I know some of the things that trigger it in me. Though I have to admit, I

didn't realize it was a form of PA. It all makes sense now. :)

this has happened to me. i thought i was having a heart attack right there at

work in front of everyone. a customer nearby was a chiropractor. he told me to

put one arm over my shoulder and to reach toward midback. and to take the other

arm and go behind back and reach up like to grab my other hand. LOL no i couldnt

touch my hands together but i felt immediate releif from the " chest pain " i

still was checked out by my doctor. and it was due to the PA. the stretch

worked. so i hope this helps someone.

Kathy,

I am going thru that right now..Do you wheeze? My right lung is being

affected but they are not relating it to my pa yet. Will see rheumy on Monday

and try to find out more..I have had this going on for 2 months now and the dr's

are treating it like bronchitis..the medicines have not done any good with the

exception to the steroids..I am doing a dose pack right now and the more Im

decreasing my dosage the more I am having the chest symptoms..I hope you are

better soon...
